should have told me there was a smokers anoymenous thread going rocks

I started when I was 13 by the time I was 21 I was up to 3 packs a day and welding 8 hours a day..in the mornings I would cough up enough tar and weld fumes to pave an interstate on ramp..still single,I got paid and bought a big old steak and potato dinner and it was great until I smoked a ciggarette and the taste was gone..I put it out and never smoked another again..I used to by the big packs of big red gum and would chew 2 sticks if I got the urge..one day I had bought a pack of gum and as I was coming out of the store I relized that I was packing it into the palm of my hand like a pack of smokes subcounsisly...it's been 26 years now and if the ciggarettes would have bothered me as much as the other abuses of my youth are bothering me now I surely would be close to dying by now

I quit smoking two years ago just to start up last year again ( I smoked a total of two or three years). I'm going on three months smoke free, but I still get the occasional urge when I see one of my friends light up. I had a little scare that jolted me to my senses. After about a week of being sick, I started to feel a little tight in the chest. This tightness got worse, to the point of me not being able to walk up a flight of stairs, so I was rushed by a family member to the Emergency Room where they said that I was having a major asthma attack. The gave me 5 breathing treatments and set me up with some steroids to take down the swelling in my lungs. The doctor said that if I didn't quit smoking I would die. I believed the doctor! After spending the night in the ER, I vowed never to smoke again. Sometimes it takes a little jolt to get us into gear, like in my case, not being able to get enough oxygen into my body! You only have one set of lungs! No matter what, keep trying to quit. Don't let those little pieces of ***** run your life. Take control!

YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

Hey Ed,

How you doing. I got your email. I didn't ignore you on purpose, I have just been real busy lately.
I have nine techs I am trying to keep working right now. We need some heat!!!!!! I will keep that fellow in mind if I start hiring here in the next month.

What kills me is I started this thread as a joke...it got out of control and morphed into smokers anonymous...LOL.
I figured Doug would kill it 10 minutes after I started it. Now it will hang here for a week making me think about my smoking problem.

No...it's not. It was scar tissue. But I spent three days getting my financial affairs in order. It scared the crap out of me.

Got the results of the CT scan and found out it was just scare tissue. I fired one up in the truck on the way home to celabrate.

So when it's too late you quit, but when you find out you have a second chance, you ruin it??

(when you do get cancer are you going to quit again??)
