Just my luck...engine caught on fire
My own fire story
I was doing brake work in my 66 mustang, one fine summer saturday afternoon. After the brakes were done, I decided to bleed them, so I opened up the master cylinder cap, and we started bledeing the brakes. After that we went for a test ride. About half way around the block (it's a large block) we started smelling something. I was thinkin, ok it's just the new brakepads wearing in. Another mile up the road, we're seeing just a little smoke... ok i must have got some wd or something on the brakes.
Another half mile up the road the car was filled with smoke so we pulled over and find the master cylinder engulfed in flames. We had completely ignored the rag we set underneath it when we were bleeding it. So here's this rag, with brake fluid, WD40, brake cleaner, carb cleaner, and whatever other flammable materials were on this old t-shirt we were using in the garage... on fire in my engine ecompartment.
Needless to say we pulled it out and stomped the flames out. I bet I'll never leave a flammable rag on the exhaust manifold again
Thankfully it wasn't in the L, but I've had my mishaps in the L just the same. Namely, leaving the window open in the carwash. DOH.
