L Vs LS1 camaro

Can my lightning (12.8 at 106mph with 1.9 60ft on F1's) beat a stock LS1 camaro with just exhaust. Casue i just raced one off the line and got my *** kicked. The guy said it was stock but i dont think so. I did spin pretty bad off the line and he just like chriped them.. By the end of 125mph my front was like 5 feet from his rear bumper...

Way too many variables........

Just race him again and don't spin......you should beat him.

Are you sure it wasn't an SS? could have been with a few minor mods..

From what I have seen, the LS1's (SS's) are a monster at the big end of the quarter.
Lightnings, stock for stock usually can get the jump on them, for the first 1/8 mile or so, but then watch out, they will gain momentum, and pass you up for the remainder.
Like was mentioned, alot depends on conditions, driver, wheel spin, ect...
My buddy has an SS, and ran low 13's in the quarter, but I have seen high 12's from these things stock...!

Last time I raced an LS1 happened on the freeway. It was a black WS6. I don't know if he had any mods or not. Me and 10secL were cruising with him at maybe 70mph. He didn't stand a chance against a 100 shot of nitrous and my mods. We tore him up bad to 140+ and didn't see him again.

You may have owned one, but obviously you know nothing about one.

I run 12.5 @ 107..... my g/f had her 01 SS run a 13.3 @ 105 the first time out at the track, with some practice, that thing can def crack the 12's... STOCK. From a 40 roll, her car pulls on my L like I pull on most rice. Mid range and up top they are killer.

I ran a 13.3@105.9 bone stock...should be a good race if you can hook up. Watch them from a roll though, our trucks lose their breath at the last half of the track...until you add more mods.

Maybe you suck>???

I think the LS1 is a great motor. My buddy has an 00 WS6 and with simple bolt on and a 125 shot of juice he layed down 550 FT LBS at the wheels. Not bad if you ask me. A beefed up rear and some slicks and his car will see 11's. Those cars are sick up top. I am sure if our trucks had any aerodynamics what so ever we would do pretty good up top too but oh well.

Back on topic here. If you hook up you should be able to show that boy what is up. Try him again but go easy out of the whole. -Mat-

the problem was you raced it to 125. these motors have incredible top end and coupled with their aerodynamic advantage over our bricks, it definitely gave him the win.

but if he was about stock he should run low 13s or so with a good driver. take it to the track and you should whip him with a good launch (assuming he only has exhaust)...

Ls1s are definitely respectable...there's a ws6 here w/ 19 inch silver zr1-style rims and that looks very sharp...

Last summer I raced a guy in a lightly modded 02 SS when I just had a chip and filter. As long as I got a good launch I could stay ahead of him to 120-125 before he'd start to pull. On one or two races I did spin slightly and he took me soon after the start. Got a couple of videos from that night actually.

Yes, the LS1 motor's do pull VERY hard on the top end. If you spin a little they will catch you about 3/4 of the way down the track and go by you. I raced one when I just had chip and filter and he caught me at about 90mph. We raced 5 times....I won 2.
Now I have 4lb pulley and throttle body and I am looking forward to the next LS1 encounter!

Another thing you have to take into consideration is that many 2002 LS1 Camaros/Pontiacs (w/ ls1) have been known to arrive with Z06 parts from the factory. Also, becauase of these parts (block, heads, CAM) many have sneaked into 12.8s-12.9s stock, and one as fast as 12.6 with just a lid and catback.

These are internet times and I have not seen timeslips so take it for what its worth. One thing I do know for a fact is that GM has been getting those things to run a little quicker from the factory each year much like Ford has done with our Lightnings.

SVTinAK is right on the money. Having owned 1, and an L, and been at the track. I can say that if you get a good launch, he is toast. I have yet to be beat by a LS1 with light mods. At the track they can get quit fast with major mods though.

The internet is fully of people talking ***** about how fast their stock ride or mild ride can do. Then you go to a track and find everybody reading that ***** dissapointed when they are running 1-2 seconds slower.

Again, he has no chance, tell him to bring it.
