Colder plugs 1st mod?

I dont want to throw a plug on my stock truck, i take alot of 1-2 hour trips, i need it to be reliable. My friend just got his 99L with 7500 miles on it 6 months ago and threw a plug. Should i just save up and get an 03 head as my first mod, i mean this sucks. Its like my truck could go at any time. Just a matter of when and where?
Thanks
Mike

Hot(OEM) plugs have nothing to do with them blowing. Changing plugs(same heat range) is unnecessary. Just loosen the OEMs and run them back snug plus 1/16th of a turn more--but no more than that.

My untouched plugs were still tight and Ok at 19,000 miles when I went to a colder plug because of an extra 5 lbs of boost. They've been in now for 24,000 miles.

I have TR5's in my truck (the Barge) since 7500 miles and it has 20k on it now. It has been to the track twice and (tho' I am disappointed with the 13.2-hot humid night). I did tight plus about 1.1/16 turn. None are loose. I have TR 6s to put in when I change them (soon). (4# pulley, chip)
