L vs honda civic hatchback

i was riding with a friend in his stock L. we roll up on a hatchback civic. from what we could tell it had a fart can and lowered. we made fun of it "piece of crap, blah , blah " . so he punches it and it ends up being really quick so we punch and pass him. we let him pull along side, he wasn't even up far enough to be nose to nose. they both punch it, timing couldn't be better, 45mph punch. the civic pulled on us, actually it beat us, and actually it was pretty damn quick, just inched away from us taking it up to 100. I have to say WTF!? he did have his boost dump pluged up.

we stop and talk to him and he opens the hood. he said all he done to it was did a motor swap from an integra gsr. didn't see no nitrous kit no nothing. just motor. ermm.

what happened, how was this possible?

All motor my ***. He squeezed on you or had a turbo. GSR motor or not, he wont pull from a 45 roll on you on unless he had the above.

man, we looked. motor is all we saw. we looked for nos unless he hid it like a magician. we should have taken a damn peek on his dash or in his car. I do remember the guy said he missed a shift. maybe to push a button?

It looked like he did that often. after we left it seemed like he was hunting for people.

An early-mid 90's Civic hatchback almost always do engine transplants. They can go into low 13's all motor via a b18 or h22 transplant.

this guy said he just got back from the track and ran low 15's ?? It was an early year model. When we watched him on the street he didn't have alot on take off. Also said he has transmission problems. The 45mph punch was a different story. argh...

we suppose to have a fast freakn truck until this happens. Needless to say made the owner mad enough to get a chip and pulley with a FT valve body.

Before i owned my L i owned a 89 mustang lx 5.0 fast back automatic with full exhaust 2.5" "no cats" and i raced a 96 civic with a gsr motor witch is a B18C BTW. he also had a lightweight flywheel and a stage 2 clutch and when i raced him it was from a 25mile an hour role and he pulled on me in first hit second and i couldn't catch up but he did not pull on me after first.
If you both cracked on it at "45" he was in second gear "the hondas are all geared extreamly low due to their lack o torque"
so second is a dog if you looked you obviously didnt see a turbo
but there are many other places to put the nitrous other than the intake tube he was definatly jucin
BTW i raced a 95 3 dr hatch when i first got my L and he had the H22 motor witch is a 2.2 twin cam vtec in a car that weighs around 2200 Lbs and i handed him his but with both hands

This is true about 13.2-13.8 driver dependant but you are forgting a major thing this can only be done with a set of slicks there is no way they will run these numbers on stright street tires

A friend of mine has an Integra with a blown GSR and that "only" runs high 13s. And even a Type R with everything except a power adder will only run low 14s. He obviously forgot to mention the one mod that made all the difference.

Ok it was me. The car was quick. We looked at the engine but did not see anything to indicate it had no2. We never went from a standing start and he would do the typical ricer start, get at your rear bumper and hit it. He would never get side by side and go. I probably will not get a chip or pully any time soon. I bought the truck to go fast in style and be dependable. Needless to say when we got home we hopped into my 96 cobra and went Vette hunting.

That combo stock gives 160 H.P. and 130 Ft lbs torque. The Civic weighs about 2400 lbs.

There is no way that car was stock. That car had a turbo charger on it if you did not see Nitrous. Now a turbo will kick that up to as much as 500 H.P. at the most and around 450 torque at most.

In this case he would wax most of us from a 45 mph roll.

It would **** you off to know how cheap those two mods would be.

Rocks

A turbo can be easily overlooked. Especially if your accustomed to seeing a big ars super charger sitting on top of the motor.

the civic could've also had a supercharger...the jackson racing SC mounts right up and you could honestly overlook it, it doesn't really stand out...and at 45mph, he was in second gear...and i don't know who said second gear in a civic is a dog but imo, that is honestly the strongest gear, you can get from 40-75 pretty damn quick...he could've honestly been all-motor as well, there's alot you can do to those engines...expensive and worth it??? not to me...i just wrecked my civic and slid on over to the f150...and 03lightning...i don't know if that would've had a turbo...especially one capable of 500hp...that snail would stand out big-time...plus he'd hafta to be sporting a front mount intercooler, and there'd be now way you'd miss seeing that...unless he powdercoated it black but you still wouldn't miss the plumbing and the snail...

i dont see how you can overlook a turbo or SC if you went through the engine compartment with a "fine comb"...maybe nitrous but not any of the other power adders...

maybe he had another engine in the back like McIntyre's Tiburon (twin engine turboed setup...637 rwhp)
