If you changed the oil before you took it in for warranty work, then it would be virtually impossible to tell. Sometimes that's not always possible and many people forget. Oil analysis will quickly tell what vis the oil is. If Ford was looking at a $7000.00 plus engine rebuil or replacement, who knows, they might do it. I agree this would seem foolish, but I've heard of them analyzing pistons to see if nitrous has been run prior to problems. You seem to be taking this information personally. I was just passing along some facts that some people may or may not be aware of. Use it however you want to.

 

I’ve heard treads about keeping receipts for your oil changes but I usually do mine my self. I always thought it would be obvious that I change my oil religiously every 3000 miles if I had a warranty issue. It’s kinda hard to prove when you buy oil by the case and a couple filters and it sits for months even if I keep a receipt. Do you think they could do an Oil analysis and be able to tell this?

 

It's a good idea to keep a record of your oil changes and also to keep any receipts. If you practice a good maintenance program and document it, you should have no problems.

No. You will not see a difference in performance between a 5w-20 and a 5w-30.

 

Just FYI my local Walmart carries Motorcraft 5 - 20 which BTW is a semi synthetic for $1.77 a quart not a bad price -

The Motorcraft 5-20 is made by Connoco and is just Connoco's Hydroclear in a Motorcraft bottle and this information came directly from a Connoco sales rep in my area.

Also, Mobil 1 is about to launch a 0-20 at the end of this month if not sooner ... As far as Ford denying a warranty because of oil viscosity nothing would surprize me with those FOOLS... (however proof would be tough if the oil was drained and refilled with 5-20)

Personally, I am using the Motorcraft 5-20 for the first 10,000 miles then switching to Mobil 1 0-20 that's my plan... Any and all oil questions can usually be found at this URL with a lot of very good info... The idea behind the 5-20 oil is simply better gas mileage that's the claim - nothing more and that's probably a stretch - One last thing this Motorcraft 5-20 is a VERY good oil and I may just stick with it period...
