I have read about cleaning the iac. What is this and where is it located? Thanks for any Help!

 

the right side of the blower plenum, its a silvery can looking thing, its on the opposite side of the rusty looking egr valve

 

Its the thing in this picture with the two black dots on it.

 

Hadn't seen one on a Lightning before.
Mine looks like that but, it is 12 to 14 inches more towards the rear bumper.

 

Thanks guys, Whats up with cleaning it? Do you take it apart and clean the inside some how? I assume just polishing the out side of it does"nt help to much. HEHE Unless you just like to show off and say look at my polished IAC.

 

When they get fouled, they stick and the truck will not idle on it's own.
You have to stay on the acclerator to keep it running.

 

haven't cleaned mine yet but i've heard to use brake cleaner or something? i would also like to know how it is cleaned and what to be careful with....

 

It's one of the easiest maint. jobs you'll ever do. Disconnect the plug at the 'can'. Btw, the 'can' has an electrical device(solenoid or motor?) inside. You don't clean it. Remove the two bolts in the casting. Flush the interior of the casting with with just about any solvent that will dissolve carbon soot. You can do a better job with Q-tips too. Inside the casting, you will see a spring-loaded valve. Some guys have taken a small screwdriver and forced the valve off its seat to get it clean too.

After soaking/flushing the interior to your heart's content, rebolt and reconnect it. If it was just dirty and not worn, your idle will stop its surging and hunting.
