Unhappy Removing Main Pulley

Hi Everyone,

I am overhauling my 99 lightning because a spark plug blew out and my head gasket is leaking.

My question is Does anyone know what direction to remove the main pulley? I know the supercharger pulley removes by turning clockwise. Is the main engine pully the same way? I want to make sure before I damage anything.

My email is good_chris@yahoo.com

Thanks in advance,
Chris

I believe that nut goes counter clock wise. But hang loose for a confirmation on this.

Yes, counter clock wise...I recommend some sort of converter/transmission lock up tool to keep the engine from spinning when you try to turn the nut, because that sucker is on there....Good luck

Hi Guys thanks,

But let me make sure we are all on the same page. The main pully has three bolts plus one big threaded bolt. I wanted to remove the big hex bolt in the middle. So do i still turn it counter clockwise to remove it?

Thanks

The three bolts actually hold an adapter on the balancer. You'll need to remove those three bolts, then pop off the adapter (has the blower pulley threads in it). You might need to use a big screwdriver to pop off the adapter. Then remove the big main crank bolt in the middle, it's normal thread. There is a big washer under it, make sure you remove that too. Then you'll need a balancer/steering wheel puller (3 leg design) and you'll attach it to the balancer via the 3 adapter bolt holes. Then use the puller to remove the balancer. Hope this helps.
