exhaust leak? or normal?

The spot between my midpipes and catback there seems to be some liquid (i think just water?) sputtering out on a cold startup. it's pretty noticeable and is more than a mist (leaves stuff on ground). It goes away after the truck warms up though...or at least the condensation leaves and I can't see anything leak through...maybe just air, gases, etc...

Is this an exhaust leak or just condensation that goes through on a cold start up due to contraction of the metals (due to coldness)

also if it is an exhaust leak, are there any ill effects?

I, get the same thing on my 01, its condensation from the hot exhust and cold pipes. If you look when you first take off there is a bunch that comes out the exhust tips also! Artie

yep but isn't it a leak if it comes from where the midpipes and catback join? i would think that would be pretty tight but maybe not?

as long as there are no ill effects i'm not worried...just curious. i have some come out of my tips too...which i know is normal...

The pipes expand when they fully heat up thats why the water seeps out when you first start up cold! Artie

I've never noticed(?) condensation coming out up near the cats. Yes, I get it out the tips but if I saw it coming out near the cats, I'd take it to an exhaust shop and have it welded shut. You don't want carbon-monoxide finding its way into your cab...............dirt-nap time .

Get under there and look for a carbon build up at all of the seams including the muffler seams. If you see a carbon build up, then you have an exhaust leak...

hmm how at risk am i? I dont idle in closed garages (mine is open..more like a carport). would i be at risk driving it?

i know that sounds stupid since it can't kill you while driving with all the air but i figure maybe it would trap in the cab?

maybe this could be my excuse to get longtubes

how bad is an exhaust leak? something major or minor? any ill effects? (other than carbon monoxide seepage)

I drove around for 8 months with multiple exhaust leaks from the stock exhaust. Granted, they weren't that bad, but they still annoyed the $h!t out of me. The stock exhaust was leaking and the mufflers were leaking at the seams. That's what I used as an excuse to get long tubes.

As someone mentioned earlier, it is a small leak until the pipes expand. A little exhaust leak is nothing to worry about.

You want to talk exhaust leaks, you should see some of the vehicles here in MI
