Alpine Head unit driving me nuts
Alpine Head unit driving me nuts
I'm installing the CVA-1003 in-dash screen head unit. Now, while hooking it up, we first had trouble bypassing the e-brake/footbrake wires so I can play videos while driving. Took care of that, we actaully got it working for 10 minutes, and then I shut off the truck. Once I turned it back on, and tried playing a video it goes back to the default saftey screen. We can get the sound to play, but not the video. Do you think there could be a short in the video wire? Or am I just hooking it up wrong? Any ideas? People who've done this.
I have always heard that Alpine are the trickiest to bypass the parking brake switch. I have a Clarion, and all that I had to do was ground the wire. I put a switch in the line so I could still turn it off in a blink of an eye (COPS). Your manual probably says something like connect it to the earth lamp side of the brake...which means to ground. Your welcome to try that. Also, go to the website 12volt.com or something like that and do a search/or ask the same question. they can be very helpful at times. Later, Kevin

Some of the newer alpines require you to press the brake 3 times or something like that, therefore just grounding it wont make it work. I'm not sure if you head unit is one of those. I've seen things on ebay to bypass it.
I just bought one of these to rid myself of the headache of trying to figure it out:

Digital, and automatic...worked perfectly from day one.

yeah, i have that unit, and they put a switch in for me, read the directions on the unit, it has a special little process you have to do.
i have a little switch w/ a button next to it, the switch acts as the "park brake" and the button as the regular brake. i always have to hold in the button and the switch is always in the up position from me viewing the videos previous, so i hold in button and flip the switch "down, up, down, up" then release the button and it comes on...
w/o having it bypassed you would have to hold in the brake pedal and engage the park brake, then release it and re engage it, then release the brake pedal, it's some kind of process you have to do, it says so in the directions.

Exactly...thats why Iwent with spending $30 more and just getting the automatic one. I don't have to switch or touch anything, just push the video button on my alpine (or nav in my case) and whola, its there.
