well many people will tell you that you need a chip, there is more then just me running around w/o a chip and a 4lber and even one that i know of with a 6lber and no chip.

and with the stock belt all you have to do is brake the stop pin off. hell even JDM told me to do this.

and if you are going to get a new belt, get a good year gator back belt.

Just wondering how noticeable would it be to a service guy that would read your stock chip if you took it in for warranty work after installing a 2 or 4# pulley. Because if I could go to a 4# without a chip and the minimal other bolt-ons that would be awesome. But a 2# would work too. So any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

well its been over 3 months now, not one ping.

i mean you can install a procharger on a regular f150 and they even tell you not to run a chip. the stock computer works fine, though most people want to get the most they can out of it, so they do run a chip

Hey Prob,

Are you still running stock plugs as well?

I've been running a 2lb.'er for a few months now w no chip. Seeing about 12psi on my Autometer gauge in the colder weather. No pinging/problems at all. I am interested in swapping in a 4lb.'er, but do not want a chip and I'm not real interested in changing plugs either.

Thanks

I ran a 2lb cageless pulley on my 2001 L for about 4 months(all I knew available at the time) without a chip with no problems(also had a 12 powerstock filter, boost bypass and accufab single blade) but I couldn't say I noticed a real big SOP difference either. But when I out a Superchip in from JDM it really came alive! Pulled hard off the line and 60-90mph was really improved. But all in all - I wouldnt bother with a 2lb pulley, I'd go with the 4lb. Cost is almost the same and takes same labor to install - and later on you'll wish you'd gotten the 4lb. A lot in here seem satisfied running the stock computer program with 93 octane and the 4 lb pulley, but I think if you can afford it - a chip will enhance your increased boost performance. Also - be prepared if you go the 2lb pulley for your belt "not" to fit. It's supposed to - but I never could quite get mine on - and ended up getting a longer one.

PS: I swapped my 2lb for a 6 lb - a world of difference!

No doubt the $3 would be more torque ...
Im running a 4# now but my warranty is gone and the tune I am running is VERY safe. Its been triple checked.

I would be careful running a 4# with no chip ....

i would rather get a longer belt (67.5) for a 4#er than break the pin off. and get the GY GB. if you're gonna do it, do it right the first time. a belt is only 35 bucks max.

as for a 2#er, you can go that route if you wish. but think about this: most believe that a 4#er is a safe bet on a daily driver. with a good safe tune (especially in the cold weather), your chipped L will gain from both the pulley and the chip. and if you're worried about warranty issues, ford can still get ya for putting on an aftermarket pulley, whether it be a 2# or 4#.

I'd skip right to the 4lber if it were me. I ran a 6lb lower and 1.5lb upper for a very long time on a stock block. I would rather have a 4lb lower w/ a conservative tune than a 2lb lower pushing it. Just my opinion.
