I think the keys are a stock item. I have had an additional one made. The 01 did come with keyless entry but just the fobs. I installed, like many others the, keypad....All I needed was the Pats code off the module under the dash...I used the default code for the keypad...This has never changed, even with additional keys added and another PCM. Yes you can swap pcm's back and forth in some cases..I will not say in all cases because I am unsure. If the Pats does not recognize the PCM then it will activate and disallow the vehicle to start. I was just at A dealership and flip flopped the PCM's..One was the original factory installed PCM..the other was a new Ford PCM from a Ford parts dept. Each allowed for the Vehicle to start with NO codes set ..after OBDII cycles were driven"IN"..then the WDS recognizes the PIDS Or adaptive tables for lack of a handy definition, in the PCM. The PCM Identification number for each seperate PCM comes up and is noted. Saved to print job or if they have the options burned to a floppy or CD. Again this is just my experience first hand standing next to a "Tech" and flip flopping PCM's WDS is run in a Windows Shell I believe windows 98..was running in the background. WDS is sort of a bean counter "working Hand " interface to Ford...they go online when they want to send or recieve data....if they don't send it Ford has no idea that is was on the machine..these things
are backed up locally.

And by the way..I have 2 keys but I only took one to the dealer.
They supplied the new key and they did the Pats key addition. The old key works as well as the new key. PLus the second key I kept out of the process. I would bet they all come from the Factory with two keys..and yet only need one to program any new or additional keys..mere speculation on my part..I'm not very sharp.....The 2 original key fobs work as well.
