Richmond Area or Close by people.... DYNO DAY!

Guys,

I want to setup a DYNO Day for all of us. I have a buddy that just opened a new shop up. Im not to sure of the price yet, but he will take care of us.

I first wanted to see how many people would be interested.

Who would be?

Anyone in Richmond or from other areas that will drive to Richmond?

Interested

Richard,
I'm interested in joining you at the dyno depending on the price and the date. Is this the guy in Powhatan that Chris mentioned awhile back? Let me know what's up.

Eric

I hate to butt in here, but whats up guys, this is me jeff, and my new username. Anyway, I have to go to ford school in richmond (actually ashland i think) the beginning of the week, March 3,4,and 5th. I tried to find a close hotel to the school with high speed internet in the rooms, but they were too far away. Anyway, im gonna be staying at the Spring Hill Suites in Glen Allen and was wondering if anyone has a local phone-numbered dial up account that i could use for 2 nights. I cant live without my internet while im gone! Help!

thanks
jeff

Jeff,
I don't have dail-up internet service but what I have done in the past is use Slingshot. http://www.slingshot.com
Slingshot is pre-paid internet access that is really cheap. You buy a preset number of minutes and they are good for one year. They have local #s up and down the East Coast.
I've used Slingshot in Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.
I think what they do is work out partnerships with other ISP's to use their access nodes.

Anyway, I hope this helps.

Eric

It looks like you have to install software for that to work. I am real picky about that kinda stuff, i just reinstalled xp on my laptop because i uninstalled a program and felt like it left some junk in the registry. Anyway, i would consider using that if i can just set it up in dial up networking with a phone number, username and password. But if you have to install their "program" to get it to dial, no. Do you remember what its like?

Plus, all im gonna use it for is 2 nights, for about 4 hours each night. Then i wont ever ever need it again.

I had the same type of reservations. I never like to install anyone else's web interface like AOL or Comcast cable modem. Slingshot does not install their own browser or any thing like that. Unfortunately you cannot just setup the numbers in the Dail-up Adapter. So I installed it and really, that all it does is setup those settings for you and put an icon on your desktop. They have their own window that pops up when you start the application from the desktop icon. It gives you choices for phone number, etc. When you connect, an icon shows up in the sytem tray. This icon tells you how much time you have left and allows you to disconnect. This is the only dail-up program I've put on my laptop. I normally connect to a domain at work. I haven't seen any problems or annoyances since I've installed slingshot (knock on wood).

Sorry guys If I went on too long off subject.

I hope if the timing, weather, and cost is right that a bunch of us can meet at the dyno.
