Crapy Sevice from Good Year Tire Store

The other day I got a flat in one of my F1 tires and brought it in (off the truck) to my local GoodYear Tire Store. I asked if it could be repaired, they said yes they can patch it, but would recomend new tires since mine are worn down. I asked how much for new F1's... he said $463 a tire, but they have great sale going on and the are only $258 a tire. I'm thinking it may be cheaper to get them from TireRack for $193, it is not rainy season until May and I could make it closer to then. So I have them patch it. I tip the mechanic $5 when he take the tire back and I say please becareful not to scratch my rim. I pay the $25 for the patch and just put the tire in the bed since I do not like anyone touching my truck and need to grease the back of the rear brake pads for squeaks anyway. I noticed a small scratch in the rim, but it is so small it could have been there, and not worth making a big deal about it.
On the radio I hear a commercial for GoodYear, for 5% off and $40 credit if you get a GY credit card, I think maybe I should have gotten the new tires, at least two. The next day I'm two towns away at my dad's doing the FTVB and back breaks and I go to get the patched tire out of the bed and it is flat. I fill it with air and spray some soapy water and it bubbles like crazy from the hole they patched. Since I'm two towns away, I take the flat and a tire from the other side of the truck and go to a GoodYear store by my dads house with his truck. I tell them the story of the bad patch job and would like the tire back so I can get a refund from the other GY store. I ask them to please be very careful not to scratch the rims, they said not to worry they will be careful. I get my two new tires with road hazard warranty for $559... I feel it is a fair deal.
I go to put on the new tires and notice a few big deep scratches (this is another story that is not resolved yet, I need to bring the rim back to that GY store)
So I bring the tire by the GY store that repair the flat last night, I leave it for the Manager, I call him and ask for my money back, he say's nothing he can do, I should have brought the tire back on the rim so he could fix it or bought the new tires from him!
Or the other GY tire shop should have given me a $25 credit. I told him I WAS two towns away and plus I did not want to have them do anymore work since they were incompetent with the repair! I'm now on my way to go pick up my tire and I will dispute the charge with the credit card company.

Sorry for the long post, I needed to vent, I feel much better now.

damn that sucks....thats why Im so paranoid about ANY service center. They just dont give a **** about anyone's vehicle. What I did a few weeks ago when I had two tires put on was simply watch them the whole time. They had to use floor jacks and do one corner at a time because of the ground effects and the suspension being so low. The guy who did it must have been about 18,which was scarey enough.....I just sat by the garage and watched while I had a smoke or 2.

He didnt scratch a wheel but when he went to close my bed cover he screwed up big time! I have the ARE, so you have to turn the handle up to open and it has to be up as well when you close the lid. He couldnt figure out that it was a power lock, and he tried to close it in the locked position. It obviuosly wasnt going to close that way ...so what does he do?... he trys to force it! He actually put his back into it trying to force it closed, which bent the rods some what on the inside. Of course I yelled "WTF ARE YOU DOING!" and showed him how it works.

Later when I got home my lid wouldnt shut right, took some work but I got it good as new again. I even lubed it so its quiet now when locking it. You just have to watch service guys like a hawk...I wont have any work done unless I have the time to sit and watch them the whole time....I did the same when my shocks were installed

your first problem was buying two GY F1s for 559!

Those tires should be about 360 shipped!

Unhappy

It is sad nowadays that we need to watch every little thing someone does to our vehicle. I do all of the work myself except for the above mentioned tire changes(don't have the equipment). It sucks but I guess we just have to deal with it. -Mat-

That sucks. I had a tire shop one time break the neck of a Cragar SS and the guy at the store was kind of reluctant to do anything about it. After a nice discussion he agrees he will get me a new wheel. Hopefully the tire store will acommodate you and take care of your wheel for you. It's to bad that you didn't inspect the wheels and point out the scratches when you picked up the wheels though, as they may try and fight you on this becuase you left with the wheels and tires mounted. Scratches from wheel machines can often be obvious how they were caused, so they may not be able to wiggle out of this. Good luck in getting your wheel resolved and hopefully everything will work out for you. Putting a claim in to the credit card company will probably resolve the bad patch issue.

I just got back from the GY store where I had the patch done and picked up my tire. I just wanted to have it incase they dispute my dispute. The manager did not even look at me. He had a store full of customers and most likely did not want a confrontation... and I would have given him one.

$360 shipped? That is $180 each with shipping! Where? I need two more?

I have had 5 nails in the last six months (2 in the L 3 in wife's vehicle). I really wanted the road hazard, (I wonder if they would offer oneon a tire not purchased from them?) plus balance, plus tire waste fee and when you add all that up, plus the $60 for mounting tires purchased somewhere else (that is what GY store told me, I'm think I could do better somewhere else). It is not much more, than what I figured from $193 at tire rack.
$193 + 18 for valve and balance + $60 for mounting = 271(per tire) x 2 = $542
I paid $559 (with tax, FL state enviromental fees, and road hazard), like I said I thought it was fair, I got them right there and then, not having to worry about being home for shipping...Please let me know where $360 for two.
Thanks

I plan to go to the other GY store to show them the scratches. The rims had that oily water all over them, I gave them a quick look for scartches on one, and saw nothing.
You are right Navi Man, I wish I would have really looked them over right there and then, should have had them clean them spotless like the rims where when I dropped them off. I will take a pic and post an update when I go to the other GY stor.

Our local Goodyear store is awesome. They give great deals, take care of the vehicle, all of that.

When I Got all my wheels and tires, I loaded them up in the truck and had them all strapped down. I went in (2 weeks after I bought the tires) and had them mount everything. They didn't charge me a thing, and when they were done, put the factory wheels/tires back in the truck and stapped them down so they wouldn't move any. I was really pleased. The tires were spotless when they were done, no scratches nothing.

Why Goodyear may file bankruptcy

A very good friend on my wifes has been at the Good Year world headquarters here in Akron for almost 29 years. She is in what I would refer to as upper/middle management. The last time I spoke to her she said that there is a very good possibility that Good Year will be filing under the federal bankruptcy laws within the next 6 to 12 months.
Are their tire stores not goverened by the home office?
Could this be one of the contributing factors?? Service centers not willing to deal, but instead gouging customers??

Marc

Some of the Goodyear stores are corporate stores, but many of them are individually owned and franchises of Goodyear. Goodyear may be filing for bankruptcy, but it's unlikely they will close up. Many large companies file for bankruptcy so they can reorganze and postpone large debts that they have accumulated. This wouldn't have anyhting to do with how individual stores operate, but more on how a manager runs the individual store. Just like in any business, there are good (no pun intended) Goodyear stores and poor ones.

If you look at thier finacial statements, thier net income (net loss now) has decreased the last few years. They are expanding quite a bit, starting to produce a lot more larger tires for the changing automotive trends. For example, the Oklahoma plant is expanding a lot, all of the new areas will produce 18" tires and larger. (i got my tires from this plant and they were a few day's old when I picked them up) I know a lot of companies if they get a new president or something, will try and have the base year real low, that way it is easy to show the good the new guy brought into the company. The company also stated that higher raw materials were lowering gross margins and profits, yet cash flow is relativly high.

AKRON, Ohio, Oct. 30, 2002 – The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company today reported net income of $33.7 million (20 cents per share) for the third quarter of 2002. Net income in the third quarter of 2001 was $9.3 million (6 cents per share). All per share amounts are diluted.

Worldwide, Goodyear’s third quarter sales were $3.5 billion in 2002, versus $3.7 billion in 2001. Tire unit volume in 2002’s third quarter was 54.4 million units, down 4 percent from last year.

However, looking at thier stock price, its dropping at a quick rate.

here is a link to the year end of 2002.

here

so who know's.

I just bought 2 new F1's this morning from a GoodYear store - $468 mounted/balanced/etc... I figured by the time I did shipping and mounting/etc through TireRack, would have been the same $. ...and I needed these this morning (tire worn to bands, nice holes )

I think the place was awesome. $200/tire.

i hate goodyear, never liked any of there tires...... usually when i buy new tires, i get them from tirerack and check there ratings that they give IMO those ratings are dead on ***** accurate... then i take the tires to belletire and have them mount and balance them while i watch of course.

i figure at least belletire has some ASC cert people, and some older guys, rather than all young kids like discount and other places. plus i go into belletire so much for stuff like mounting, balancing, alignments, they know me pretty well.
