Sunroof?

Hey...any structural problems with putting in a sunroof..Im really gonna miss my convertible this summer..I dont want an electric one that rolls over the top & over the bed...just one that pops out will be fine, I can set it behind the seats or whatever...I was just wondering if there were any frame supports or anything running through the middle of the roof that the installers would have to contend with, or if this will cause any major structural rigidity problems.

I believe a factory sunroof is an option on a regular f150, so I wouldn't see a problem with putting one in a Lightning. Best thing to do is contact a local shop that specializes in sunroofs and they can give you the options available and what the cost would be.

Well, I have a place here that will install a manual for 279 I think it was. I DONT want a power one that rolls back like a ricer wing. I just want one that opens slightly upward and can pop out. Not a bad price at less than 3 really. Just wanted to make sure I wasnt compromising a TOn of body flex by chopping a hole in my roof.

sunroof

Hey Tinnman,
Last year I saw a brand new 2002 lightning at Pat Millikan ford in Redford with a sunroof. It still had the window stickers and everything on it. They must have sent it out before the guy picked it up from the dealer. So it looks like it can be done. Not sure about structural though. I am sure the lightning twists a little more than a reg F150.

Have one installed that retracts into the roof. They just drop the interior roof line down and joila. Then you also don't have to worry about popping your top and putting it somewhere.

Wheres it gonna go though? Unless you have a HD I don't see where there will be enough space in the roof.

Well you do have a good point. It depends on how wide of a sunroff you want. I'll bet you fab a 16" wide roof in. However, if you want like a 24" wide roof then I agree Spank.......he needs a flip up.

The Ford factory sunroof (retractable) is only available on SuperCabs and Supercrews. You can't get it on a regular cab because there isn't enough roof for it to retract in to.

A manual pop-up and/or remove type would work fine.

p.s. man, you guys type fast.
