LS1 vs LT1?

How much differnce in the 2? I raced a 96 model Trans Am last night with the LT1 in it. It was bone stock and only had 22,000 original miles on it. I completly hammered the guy probably 5-6 links. Is this a good kill? Just wondering, Thanks in advance for your opinions.

LT1's have a bit more TQ down low, while the LS1 pulls harder up top. Its a high 13 sec car with a good driver bone stock.

LT-1s I believe were rated at 285 hp. The were always good for a low 14...high 13s with some traction and a good driver. LS-1s on the other hand are much stronger. They don't launch all that great(unless it's an auto) but pull really hard on the top end. Not uncommon to see stock ones run mid 13s.

The LS1's have more "legs" stock, love to rpm. A six speed LS1 will usually run 13.5 to 13.7 stock whereas the LT1 was usually a 13.9 to 14.2 stock. Autos were 2 to 3 tenths slower in each.

The guy had time slips of 13.7 for this car. So do you think 5-6 links is ok with my current mods?

I had raced a LS1 before my 4lb pulley and tires and lost a couple and won a couple. Traction was a major issue then. I have gotten that under control now with Nitto Dr's.

Thumbs up

Any kill is a good kill. Just look out for those LS-1's up top. -Mat-

As long as its dead it was a good kill.

But LS1's RULE over LT1's. Stock vs. Stock or Mod for Mod. and there are stock LS1's running high 12's. I have never seen a stock LT1 touch 12's.

Had a buddy with a LS1, automatic non SS with nothing to special on it. bone stock from the factory with nothing else on it he went consistant 13.1's with it all day long in 90 degree weather. I don't know exactly what the deal was with it, but his car was a fluke monter. he would put it into drive and just go, nothing to it.
