Getting into the 12's with an 03 Lightning

I will be getting an 03 Lightning in the next week or so. Will likely be trading up to the 04 when it arrives. I've heard the stock 03's run anywhere from 13.20's to 14's, and everywhere in-between. I'd like to be able to run 12.80's with decent traction. I've searched this site for a couple of days and found a lot of good info. I'm looking for real world experience as to what parts to run. I know the blower pulley, chip, and cold air or ram air setup is pretty much a given. Possibly a cat back exhaust. I've checked out the supporting vendors and they have all the parts, but differ in what will be required to get to my goal.

I'd like to keep the money spent under $2K with no mods that can't be reversed. $1500 would be even better. I appreciate all input. I'm new here and am sure this has been hashed a thousand times before, but searching didn't give me the exact answer I was trying to find.

Thanks for your time.

Jody

All 3 are reversible. As for the 04 lighting your gonna have to wait till atleast 05.

Lower pulley.....300 to 500..depending on new or used
Chip...150 to 250...Depending on whose chip(Diablo, Superchips..etc) and tuning/programming
Cold Air Intake...130 to 200...Depending on whose kit...
Boost bypass mod...5
Oil breather cap..15 to 25...
Good set of spark plugs...20 to 90...Talk to a tuner
Get some dead weight off the truck..i.e....hitch and spare tire and jack..
Single blade throttle body..350 to 500..Verdict is still out on this one, but it defenitely doesn't hurt...
Exhaust...Not necessary to run in the 12's
With these mods, I ran 12.41 @111.99 on F1's(tires that come on thr truck)

Basically for a fifteen hundred and a little time, you should be clicking 12's off all day long...

My first(ever) 12 second pass(12.882@106.18 with a 1.882 60') was with a 3 lb pulley, chip, ram air kit, OEM plugs & exhaust, hitch & spare removed, FRRP th/body, Royal Purple #11 Synthetic Racing Oil, and 16" M/T ET Streets. I, unlike many, could not get traction on my F1s. Save about $600 if you can do it without the slicks & wheels.

Thanks a lot guys; this is the exact info I was looking for. Obviously traction is an issue, but I think I'll start with the above mods and see where I end up. Money isn't a huge issue, just don't want to buy several hundred dollars worth of stuff that I don't need to reach my goals. I did a similar project with an 86 Grand National; I spent about $3500 on bolt-ons which netted me 12.50's, and I met several guys at the track that were running as fast or faster than me $1000-$1500 in mods. Trying to be the smarter guy this time.

One question for Michael; you have the same basic mods as the other guys but are running 13.50's. Are you at altitude or having major traction issues? No slam here at all, just curious as it seems to be a completely different e.t than what most claim these mods will do.

Thanks again,

Jody

I need to change that, that was without the chip and pulley. I'm headed to the dyno this weekend and then to the track soon I hope. Thanks!

Save about $60 for a driveshaft loop.

Michael,

Thanks for the update, makes sense now. Good idea on the driveshaft loop!
