Cure for belt slip problem?

A local performance shop which does a lot of work on Mustangs says the new supercharged Cobras are going to bigger idler pulleys to eliminate slip. The owner says the bigger idlers increase "wrap" on the upper, supercharger, pulley and BINGO, no more slip.

Has anyone done this to a L? Would we use the same idlers as the Cobra?

I did somthing alomng those lines but it was a full out custom job and the eaton blower won't support the tension I had on it with this setup. But let me tell you, it did slip one bit. about 200 ftlbs of pressure on the belt alone, it was like a violin string as tight as you could imagine! instant neck snapping boost and the blower sounded cooler too! Maybe with a works blower it can handle the extra tension, we'll see.

We cured that problem by having every one of our upper pulleys sand blasted in the belt area for better grip.

Even with the 2.77" pulley we are not seeing slippage on the Lightnings. The Cobras spin a lot faster and we are having an oversized idler pulley made for that.

I highly doubt a simple media blast is going to cure the belt slippage with the L. I had my old stock upper done and it still slipped with the 4lb lower only. There's a huge difference when you got that belt tight so it doesn't slip, Trust me I know cause I'm probably the only one who's done it with an L. Its a great concept and design for our trucks, but the blower bearings on the eaton can't handle the tension.

If you go with a larger upper pulley there will be less slippage but also less boost.....

PEaCE........

Lightbulb

if the idler pulleys were moved closer together and also moved up, closer to the blower pulley, that would do the trick with no increased belt tension.............

RT,

It was tested and I stand by my post.
As long as your belt is not worn out, it holds.
