If you're brave enough to take the heads off, and I'm not, dong the Heli-coil is pretty easy. I have helicoil tools for transmissions, the intial kit cost me about $75, and the supplies are very reasonable, a few dollars for a pack of inserts, and normal cost for waht amounts to a few drill bits and taps. I do some machining myself, so I generally use a center drill to start the hole, a regular drill bit to size it and a genuine heli coil tap to ready it for the insert. It's not too hard to do at all, and as strong as a good initial thread would be.

I already pulled the heads and took them to the shop.

Perhaps the more important question is what does it cost not to have inserts installed?
