Built shortblocks

Anybody here running one of R.E.M.'s built shortblocks? I have heard, and experienced, good thinds about their parts and service, but would like more info on the shortblocks. Seems they run a little less than several of the other vendors have quoted, and want to make sure they would be capable of holding up with an aftermarket S/C and a good amount of boost beyond stock.

All I can tell you is I have received great service from both Sal, and REM.

Either way you can’t lose.

Any idea who does the major vendors machine work? I doubt very many, if any, of the tuners do their own. Seems to me that is the major difference in the product. Several use CP or Ross pistons and Manley rods.

Again, I am looking for people who actually have bought and used and a REM shortblock, not recommendations on who has the best.

Most of these guys have an outside builder that does the work, so find a good shop and skip the middle man if you want to save some money.

A block and crank can be had for $400.

The trick is to find someone who knows HOW to build a MODULAR motor. There is nothing SIMILAR to a Mod motor vs a Pushrod motor.

CP pistons are yummy. Manley Rods are yummy. Plasma Rings are yummy too.

If you can afford a bowl cleanup on the heads, do that to, but most importantly, get BRONZE valve guides installed no matter what. You will thank me later, especially if you decide to run long tubes. Shouldnt be more then $3K out the door when you supply them the parts. Even a new mod shortblock needs to be bored a little bit. If a builder tells you no, walk the hell away.
