How much Extra HP are NEW KB USERS planning on using ???

Still checking my options for my next Mod. I had a great conversation with Johnny L yesterday (AWESOME GUY, EXTREMELY HELPFUL) and basically what I got out of it is, he recommends setting it up with my 4lb lower and I believe he said like a 3.5 upper on the KB, giving me @14PSI (I think he said) I have more boost than that right now, but I know the new blower is more efficient and with the same boost as now will produce More power.

MY QUESTION IS --> "HOW MUCH MORE POWER"
I kind of got the impression on a stock Block this is where KB and JL suggest we set them up at. He mentioned that combo giving me at least another 50 HP and about 3/10 or better ET.

I don't know if I can justify me spending that coin if that’s all my stock block will handle, especially when I can do juice for $500.00 and add the same HP and more if I desire. We all know the blower can add up to 200 HP, but how much of that can I use ?

You 03 owners have options we never had. There's no doubt the aftermarket Blowers are the "ULTIMATE MOD"
I just want to make sure I can utilize the power this Mod has available to us, "ON A STOCK BLOCK" ???

I plan on running the KB with a 6lb lower. Maybe some nitrous on top of that. I'd like to get a 10second time slip this year.

I'm actually going to run two different pulley combos, one for street and on for track duty, but both programs will be for the street because I may decide to keep the smaller pulley on all the time.

6lb lower (9inch) w/ 3.5 inch upper= 15-16 psi/ side one
6lb lower (9inch) w/3.0 inch upper= 17-18 psi/ side two

Some may think I'm crazy, but being around blowers all my life I know that alot of engine damage is by improper tuning and also extended rpm's. I'll be putting it on a dyno and checking the a/f's with both programs and if I exceed my RWHP goal I will probably lower the timing some to have a much safer and reliable tune. I may also drop my shift rpm's from 5600 to 5300 to help. They can always be raised later when I put in a new shortblock.

Thats just my plans.
Thanks Mike

Mike

You just confirmed my thinking on running pulleys. I have my shift set at 5200. They maybe (probably), more power to be had by spinning the motor faster, but Iam not willing to take a chance with my chitty luck

FYI, not exactly a K-B answer but I'm setting up for a Works 140. I'm carefully blueprintng, (and I mean carefully) lower end with built rods and pistons. I plan to add boost and if necessary a bit of N20 until it either possibly blows or gets me to into 10 seconds.

Almost got enough parts left over to do a second engine, so why not?

It's only money right???

A K/B with a STOCK lower and a 3.5 upper =about 10 lbs. A 3.25 upper = about 13 lbs. (that is what I run on 91 octane) A 3" = about 16 lbs. My truck with the K/B picked up 47 rwhp at about 3 to 4 lbs of boost over stock. You will se about 10 rwhp per pound of boost, plus the blower is worth about 15 to 20 rwhp at stock boost levels. Question here: Why do the 03 Lightning owner have options we never had>??? Do you mean they have my choices they can make because of all the new products out. Or are you saying they having better motors. I am almost positive they have the same quality bottem end just some of them have better heads. Enlighten me please. -Mat-

Hi Hank Fan

"YA BABY"
I ORDERED THE JUICE
MAKES MORE SENSE FOR ME
I'm trying to down size the jets with Zex so I can run as little as 35HP and use it more for cooling down the T/B, Manifold, S/C, + Intercooler to keep me consistent, cool, and SAFE.
I'll run it with only 4 lbs of extra pulley to start, then work my way up to adding the 2-3 Upper back on.
I believe there is much benefit to the SUB ZERO TEMP'S going though our system, if I can keep it to a min HP,
"I should be safe"
If not

Rob- I was hoping that you would order a nitrous kit. Be sure to keep us posted when you get the kit installed! When do you expect to have it?

I am glad some others feel this way.........christ I thought I was the only one.

All you hear people say is "If your not shifting around 5600rpms then your losing speed/power/ET" etc etc etc.

I say it's bullchit. Me and Mike (Phillips) talked about this for quite sometime at a dyno session last year. Needless to say we were on the same page. Reason it came up is because I made it a resounding point for the dyno-dude not to take the motor past 5300rpms when he took everyone elses to 5600+.

I had my shift points set at 5250 on both street/race program.

Take a look at anyone's dyno sheet and look at how bad their numbers fall off after 5000. Logical question would be "Why not get into the next gear where all my power is."

Just my $.02

Ditto. I really want a new blower, but I really cannot justify spending that much money if you only going to use a small % of what it's capable of.

Joe and Mike- exactly. Our engines were not made for high rpm's, therefor looking for more rpm's for more power is just asking for rod slinging

I couldn't agree more.......the cams are dead at that speed and so is the supercharger.
If it shifted at 5000 even it would probably go faster......I might have to try that.
