Thoughts on O-ringing Head/Block
Thoughts on O-ringing Head/Block
I did a forum search on combusion chamber pressure versus head gasket integrity, and only found that torque to yield head studs (got those) are the ticket. Johnny Lightning states standard Head Gasket with proper torquing are good for 25PSI boost. But what about those who will use these aftermarket blowers AND nitrous (some of whom add 50 to 250HP).
At what point, if any, should one consider O-ringing the head/block? If so, can it still use the factory head gasket or is there a copper replacement?
Any thoughts?

Thats a bad idea on a street car. I'd rather lose an inexpensive head gasket than the entire shortblock. There's a single turbo HD in tampa, and he uses the stock head gaskets and torque to yeild bolts. Even with 1000rwhp and 1200rwtq on nitrous he hasn't lost a head gasket.
Did it on my ATI Procharged GT when it had a 306. Stopped it from blowing head gaskets... of course then it pounded the entire passenger side bank of pistons down onto the wrist pins so they no longer rotated...
So nope, wouldn't do it on a daily driver. Head gaskets are much cheaper than pistons/rods/cranks/blocks...

Wow, we have unanimous consensus on an F150 post!!!!
Thanks a lot guys, I'll go with the new Lightning Gaskets, got the ARP studs and torque them carefully.
Bring on the new Blower!!!
