I am serching for a 2000 Cobra R intake. I am building a 5.4 DOHC to go in my old 78 F-150 4x4 and need a good intake. Seeing how the Cobra R intake is the only good performance intake I can think of, I would like to put it on my engine.

If any one here can help me out I would realy appreciate it
Any trany guys know if the Lightning trany can bolt up to a NP205 transfer case. I know the E4OD will.

I thought of building up alightning engine but would rather not go to the trouble of hooking up the whole intercooler set up. This 5.4 should make 400hp and that should be enough

The Cobra R intake will only fit/match up to Cobra-R heads. Not all Ford Modular 4v heads are the same. Currently there are at least 3, 4v 4.6/5.4 head configurations. All different, all different intakes. Not a good motor combination for low end torque, at least in N/A form.

 

Some minor fitment issues are not that big a deal. Cobra R made 385ftlbs of torque at 4700 rpms not bad and 75% at 2500 rpms. The new Cobra heads are sappossed to be close to what the Cobra R had just with different cams.

 

It's not a matter of a minor fit issue. They all have completely different ports. Not even close. Not to mention that there are only 300 Cobra-R's in existance. I called SVT in 2000 in an attenpt to procure some R engine parts. None, nada, as far as spares. And that was with having a Cobra-R vin to use (friends). NAvigator heads are your best bet. What good is 385ft/lb going to for a 4x4 at 4700 rpm? Pick up a Lightning and save yourself some money.

 

At the rate the Lightning are ending up in junk yards, I would think the odds are pretty good of finding one wrecked with a good motor/trans.
