You could always wait for the 13w6's to start shipping. I'm not sure you have the cu ft to make a pair work well though. Min enclosure is 1 cu ft sealed.
The v2 line of w6's are awesome speakers. I'm considering swapping out my 12w3 v2 for a w6 v2.
Unfortunately, a head to head test of L7's vs W6's are almost impossible. We all know you can't count on how a set of speakers sounds in one vehicle vs the other. My opinion is it's a complete toss up and you would be happy either way. It might come down to which can you get the better deal on?

Joe, have you ever considered a ported box? I had a ported box for my 10L7 and it was a much cleaner and harder hitting bass than the two sealed 10s. Think about a single ported 12L7.
My friends and I generally make our own boxes because we have access to all the tools and materials, but I was pressed for time so I had a local shop make it up for me real fast. It cost me about 100 dollars.

Here is a pic of the first install:
Here is the one with the ported box. In the pic I just threw it in there to hear how it would sound so please don't mind the crappy wiring, it was only temp.

I have had 2 10's before but now I have 2 12's ...it just depends on what kind of music you listen to and which frequency responce best suites it. I listen to a lot of different crap, but my subs are barely on for the most part. (and thats plenty loud) I wanted that low deep swell that the 12's provide just for show though...they sound very clean and low at 15% driving around town.
The 10's respond to the most types of music though, you wont get as hard of hits as you will from a 12 but they always sound clean and dont usually shake the hell out of your cab much. I wouldnt even mess with 8's really..but thats just me, some of those 8's sound just like a 10 if they are high quality...dont know why but they do if you spend enough
and dynamat x-treme or brown bead is a good idea for sure, helps keep sound in and bad road noise out...keeps stuff from rattling as much as well in your doors and back cab wall.

well I stopped at another one of my local shops and Blown318's buddy works at the shop and he's said he's going to pack 4 10" JL w6v2's in my cab behind the seat with some custom fiberglass work. I think that would hit the best and definetly make some sweet bass for me so I'm going to wait and have them do it I think.
Total with subs, box, and install will run me about $2100.00 bucks. Its allot more then I want to spend, but I know this will be the last system I put in that truck finally.

You obviously like your music and gear. I can only help you with your theory. Twice the power does not equal twice as loud. There is a logarithmic relationship between power and sound pressure levels commonly measured in decibels of dBs. In addition the perception of loudness depends on the frequency. That is why we commonly measure noise on the A weighted scale (dBAs). Generally speaking, the power doubles for every 5dB increase in sound. It gets a little complicated because of a number or factors, but, there is not a one-to-one relationship between power and sound.
As far as the speakers go, a speakers job is to create rapid changes in atmospheric pressure. In theory, the bigger the speaker the larger the wavelength you can generate. The larger the wavelength, the lowere the frequency. So your 12" speaker may claim response down to 15 hertz and your 10s can only get you to 28 Hertz or something like that. Funny thing is the wavelength of low frequencies are measured in feet. So, even though your speaker and amps are rated down to 25 Hertz or whatever, you will never hear that frequency because our cabs are so small.
To much info probably, but, I used to spend alot of time measuring noise and developing controls for that noise.

RT - you heard about the new 8w7's about to ship? They look damn impressive.
$2100 is pretty rich. What's he selling you the speakers at? I guess at $350 each that's $1400. $700 isn't out of line for a serious fiberglass box and install. I'd still shoot them $1999 or no deal, but I like to haggle. 10w6v2's online go about $290.

I promise you the sound pressure levels these things put out will cause hearing loss over time. For example, you shouldn't expose yourself to 120 dBA for more than 15 minutes a day. 110 dBA and your good for an hour.

Well I'm kinda screwed on that one, HAHAHAHA. My grand prix was hitting around 145 DB daily driver with regular music. I loved it and it was fun! That was 6 12" w6's in that car, nothing but stereo for a truck, HAHAHAHAHA.
I'm going to tell them that I want the subs for 300 each, and I want the box for 600 bucks. the box will be total custom done with 1" MDF, steel plating back for more depth, fiber glass, and custom coverings like brushed aluminum and etched glass with a lightning logo.
But they know me there and they know they will get allot of publicity with my truck.
so $1800 bucks and I'll be happy with it.
