Help! need info for used chip
If I were to purchase a used chip, what all will I need to know? Would I need to know, the number on my computer and the number on the chip so I don’t get taken??? Would a chip from a 99 or a 00 fit my 2002 L? Could a tuner like PSP reburn any type of chip? One more question, is possible to fry a chip?
As far as I know(?), PSP/Sal deals with Autologic chips, JL with Diablo, and JDM with Superchips. I don't think they program brands/types different from their own?
I'd be really careful in buying a used chip. There are a lot of things to take into consideration--and I d/k all of them. You are going to be charged a fee to reburn a used one by any of the tuners.
If it were me, I'd save up for a new one and then as you add mods, the tuner will reburn 'his' for free(for a couple of times at least).

I just sent JLP a Diablo Delta chip I got from a friend, it was $75 and I'm not sure after that.

I have the perfect Chip for You
I have a Diablo Sport Chip for a 2002 Lightning ABU-2 Computer (thats what you have).
It's super safe, I used it to break in my truck, I used it for the first 4 to 5000 miles. Here's what it is:
5800 RPM Rev Limiter
5500-5600 RPM shifts
12-13 degrees of total timing
A/F's are low 11's
I left the transmission at Stock line pressure (this will save your transmission pump)
200ms between shifts (will keep your gears from slipping so much and help to prolong tranny life)
Torque Reduction turned OFF (you know, where the factory program cuts 4 cylinders on the 1-2 shift - producing that "fart" sound)
That's about it, besides some Air and Fuel tweaking ;-)
The Chip gave 29 Rear Wheel HP on a STOCK truck w/ nothing done to it but the chip.
There are other little tricks programmed into the Chip,
(a perfect example would be the "tip in", meaning as you initially get into the throttle).
I always planned on keeping it for a spare but if you need a good chip for a good deal, I'd probaly hook you up. Now I have a Diablo Delta Chip with a switch allowing me to switch from stock to street to track
