To everyone using a Line Valve mod only....

I have talked to the 5th person that has the same problem as 4 others. I was one that use to have it and it comes from using a Line Valve only to improve your valve body.

We would all get to the track, cool down and get ready to run.

And on the first pass EVERYTIME we would slip shift into 2nd gear.

This is the 5th truck I have seen it happen on....

SO if you have this, get rid of that $20 part that will ruin your shifts and get a FULL Shift kit not just part of it.

The most popular are Factory Tech's Valvebody, Level 10, & LFP's Valve body.

Yep, you need more than just a bigger "plunger". The springs make a difference under extreme conditions. Best bet is still the F/T V/B.

Yeah a line-mod valve definetly doesn't compare to the Factory Tech Valve body. Wish I'd done that one as my first mod. Love those hard shifts that throws you back in the seat not to mention the chirping of the tire. Scaring my poor fellow drivers on the road. Love that look I get "what the heck was that"

Don't know what the damage could be to the tranny either way, but anytime you drive something hard you'll do damage.

I was about to buy one a couple months ago, until I did some research and found they are crap. You get what you pay for... for 20$, you get crap!

Been running a Line Mod for a LONG time in my 2000 and it Shifts great. I had Level 10 rebuild my trans last year and they had the opportunity to sell me springs or other addons and didnt. I asked and they stated that the valve I had was fine.

It could be that the track is stricky one time it feels like it shifts hard. If the track is off the next time the shift will feel like it slipped

Im running the fastest or next fastest non nitrous time among those in Talon North Texas Group.

If a valve is $20 as mentioned then adding a couple springs jumps it to $180 ?? Seems steep since your not paying for the actual valve body.

My $0.02

Doug

Ever thought that might be why your tranny had to be rebuilt?

Its not that the track is sticky or not, I had a 1.65 60 foot and when I went to 2nd it slipped into gear, 4 other trucks have done it. All but one has stopped once the line valve was taken out. The one that hasent changed still has the line valve and it will be coming out really soon....

24,000 Miles and no tranny problems....

The line mod valve is just one valve that is modified. I don't know if there is any differences in the other valves in the valve body, but comparing my stock one to the valve body it looks like springs or something (don't know the technical term) was added for all the valves and not just one. Shifts way harder than the line mod valve.

When I put Nitto Streets on my truck the line mod valve couldn't chirp the tires. The chirp is now back with the ft vb and I love it. Worth the money.

Knew that question was coming..
There was NOTHING wrong with my tranny re drivability...
Just like there was nothing wrong with my Exhaust system when I had it replaced. Or for that matter the blower pulley or the corner lights, or the floor mats etc etc etc. I changed them out because I wanted the "better" one.

The point I was trying to make was that everyone has different experience. There are folks in TALON with both types of Trans mods and folks with NONE. There is NO trackable advantage or disadvantage to either based on our experience.

Monster boxes are NOT bullet proof and Line mods are NOT junk and Valve bodies are not the ONLY decent mod out there...

I agree with Doug

on this one..
I have a line mod and love it.. its perfect for me.. now I will state that I dont take my truck to the race track.. but I leave a few thousand miles worth of rubber on the road on occasion..

There must be half the board using the line mod with very few complaints. Your testimony to only 5 doesn't sound significant considering the number of trans. failures mentioned here. Mine hits very hard, lites them up from a WOT at 35 mph. If it is proven to me that it is bad, I will change, but I am currently very happy with its performance.

edit: Let me add I'm sure the full valve body mod is a more comprehensive upgrade, and I sure want to be informed of problems stemming from just the valve mod.

All I am saying is the pattern we have saw. Most of these trucks are low 12 to High 11 second trucks. It may be related to the power you make, but all of them have not done it since removing the Line valve and going to a FULL SHIFT KIT.
