I have 3 different ones at this time. An old Escort Solo – about 3 or 4 years old, new Solo S2, and a Bel 360 (year old).

On a recent trip between Florida and DC I was running a three to see what the differences were.

The Bel seems a little too sensitive even when I turn off the X-Band It just made me paranoid, as it would go off and the Escorts would be silent.

The new Solo compared against the old, it is a little better that’s it. It doesn’t go off as much as the old one so I am assuming the anti-falsing technology is working. It would go off maybe half a second or second sooner than the old solo. Not much in real world driving.

One big pain with the new Solo 2 is that I cannot see the display screen with my sunglasses on. Even with the contrast adjusted to max. The max volume is not as loud as the older version.
So if you are cranking the Metallica you might not hear it go off until it's too late.

It’s not bad for a cordless but if I was going to spend the $300 or so bucks again I would go for the Valentine One with its indicators for which direction the signal is coming from so I could make a more informed decision as to get on the brakes or the gas.

radars

I have the passport 8500. Its a great radar and has saved my *** plenty of times already. has picked up radar as far as 2 miles up on the freeway (in the city). It compares to and has even out done my friends V1 and its 150 bucks cheaper and smaller. Another feature I like about it is its screens and programmable modes. since Ford did away with a volt gauge for the boost gauge, I have my radar (digital display) set to monitor my system voltage while driving.
I got the radar at best buy (on sale) for 249.00 and bought the hard mount kit from escort for another 29.00. I installed it to a switched source at the using an add a circuit I got from autozone for 6.00. I recommend the add a circuit to anyone. It is a very clean (non ghetto) way to add accessories to your vehicle with full circuit protection.
