I've been trying to sell my lightning "replica" for about 7 months now and have had 40+ bites but no one has the cash. I started asking 19 and am now down to 16,950. The truck was built off of a 2001 XLT stepside v6 (current TMV at 16,015 edmunds private party) I have about 28K invested and need to sell it due to a baby next month. I don't want to give it away, is 16,950 unreasonable? Considering?

I'd say $17k is reasonable depending on the milage on the truck itself.

The price doesnt seem unreasonable really... no flame intended but it may be harder to sell a "looka-like" lightning then if it were still stock in apearance. I undertsand how you feel though since you invested so much into her to get her how you wanted....have you tried any adds besides on truck sites? ebay maybe as well?

 

It only has 23K miles, thats less than 12 per year..... Still under factory warranty. Thanks for the feedback.

 

konig I could sell the lightning stuff seperatly, do you think that people actually think it's worth less with it on there? If that's the case I'm sure I could sell the stuff for a couple grand on EBAY and put the truck back to stock. It's just a lot of work...... not to mention the holes in the bed I'd have to fix

holes? you mean for mounting the side skirts? What I was saying is that the % of people who need a stock v6 -f150 is probably pretty decent since I see so many on the road... the body kit,wheels and all make it a looka-like, nothing really wrong with that in my opinion but a lot of people dislike that very strongly. The number of people that would be comfortable driving a looka-like Lightning isnt a large group, not nearly as large as the people who are looking for a regular v6.

Im thinking that is cutting down on your possible customers by quite a bit...it may also be attracting people (like hs kids) who just plain dont have the money but what something cool looking. If I was you I would sell off the parts, people can always use parts...sell the truck as a stocker so you can get the majority of the money you need for your kid quickly....just something to think about, hope you sell it man

I do realize some people might feel the urge to jest, to joke, and even to that insult to a V6 lightning replica. I envy those who have the 33K for a new lightning and can enjoy the performance of one , at the time back in '01 I just graduated from college prices on the '99s were still up around 28K I liked the look, researched the payment at 10% over 5 years = $700 bucks a month plus the under 25 insurance quote of 350+ per month. The decision was clear making a look alike was more feasible for me at that point. My only bad decision was not going with the extra cab, but I had a pretty sweet looking truck for 1.5 years. Now maturity calls and a wife and kids comes first. As does selling my truck. Please repond with "Help" and ideas rather than flames and discouragement.

 

I really do think you should put it back to stock and try again...its what I would do. You have to remember selling a car is a pain in the *** no matter what really

A guy from a local dealership called and wanted to buy it outright so I took it down there. He offered me $10,500, what a joke then proceeded to say that he could give me more if I was interested in trading up to a new 03!!! I can't believe some dealerships use such crude tactics to get people in to look at cars

 

Don't feel bad Tonik. I will be in the same boat as you when i wanna sale my truck. I could have got a lightning, but my insurance is out rageous and i really couldn't afford the insurance part. Right now my insurance is 2 grand every six months. I have never been in a wreck or pulled over either. I think you should leave it complete. Someone kid out of high school will probably buy it. But if you wanna sale it piece by piece. How much for the fog lights.

 

2G's every six months with not tickets or wrecks? Geez why the high insurance, I'm under 25 and my insurance for full coverage is 450 for 6 months? I've got a speeding ticket too and have been in a wreck (not my fault).
