skinnys up front, fatties in the rear?

anyone run skinny tires up front and fat ones in the rear. There is a guy here selling some 245/40-18 and was thinking running those up front and 305/45 in the rear. any negative effect for things such as drag racing or auto-x?

I have some 255/45/18's for the front and 305/45/18's for the rear on my truck.

I think the 25.7" height will look funny. That is why I went with the 255/45 for 27". You could go to a narrower tire like a 235/55 in a michelin pilot for the front, but they only have the 345/30 for the rear which is way too wide unless you get some custom wheels.

I think the front end being too low(compared to the rear) can hurt in drag racing. The narrower tire is probably better.

Personally I prefer fatties up front and skinnies in the rear

Here is a picture of the 255 and 305 nitto.

The weight of the 255/45/18 and weld prostars is 51#'s. That beats the 69#'s with the 295/45/18 nitto and chromed stock wheel. 18lbs saved each side.

The stock tire is about 28.5". The tire you suggest is 26.5" That is one inch more gap between the fender and the top of the wheel and one inch closer from the suspension to the ground. I don't think they are too narrow. I would go with a tire which was more narrow, but I want matching tires and the 235/55/18's don't have matching rears except the michelin pilots which measure 345/30/18. They are too wide for the rear.

What you want to do is your choice, but I think it would look funny having such small tires on the front. Mainly the fender to wheel gap.

All that being said, I have a roush lowered suspension and I don't want to go too low. For me 27" front tire height is the minimum.

Here are those 305/45/18's on the rear and 255/45/18 on the front of a 2003 Lightning. It would look better with a drop.

I run skinnys up front but only for drag racing. Once I got all my mods in place I tuned my truck to launch at the start of the third light and get a good RT. If my RT was high which it was I adjusted to a smaller diameter front tire to get a better RT. On my 70 corvette I found that the biggest tires I could get under the rean end did not turn well under the front so I went to a smaller tire up front. Chevy found this out about 12 years after I did and now has different size tires on the front and the rear. A different diameter tire on the front will probably cause your abs to chatter if you brake hard.
