Hi, guys im new here, just had a few questions

Whats up Lightning owners,

Currently i have an Arctic White 2001 6spd SS, i am in the market to buy another car so i dont drive it everyday. I have looked into the Lightnings, and have always loved the way they look, and the whole concept of it. What i was wondering is.......to my knowledge the engine is a 5.4 supercharged, what other components are reinforced in the engine....rods??.....also, what else does the Lightning package add to the "engine", is it a stock 5.4 w/ a supercharger bolted on and thats it? Also what does a stock new Lightning run in the 1/4??...I run a 13.00 @ 111, all stock except for a k/n and SLP airlid, and want something to run similar to that.

thanks

welcome.

lightnings are fun.

most run between 13.50 - 14.00 stock.

for about $500 bucks (a chip and pulley) you can easily be in the high to mid 12's.

give one a try, you won't be dissappointed.

later,
chris

500-700$ will put you easily into the 12's on a Lightning with Chip/Pulley/Intake. The 5.4 is not a stock 5.4 which comes in regular f150's. Im not totally sure what all is beefed up, but I know its beefed up somewhat. Stock Lightnings have run anywhere from 13.4's to 15's! All depending on launch, weather, and each truck differs in personality! Good luck!

There is a TON of differences between a Lightning and a F-150. from the Water to Air intercooler all the way back to the rearend. then of course the suspension is different too. Not sure just how much you know about Lightnings but its not just a F150 with a supercharger slapped on it.

What parts of the truck are you asking about?

well, actually the engine isn't far from just a regular 5.4 with a supercharger slapped on it. it does have forged pistons, but the heads, block, and crank are the same I believe. the rods, I'm not sure, but if they are an upgrade, it didn't work.

I'm sure I'll leave some things out, but I'll give it a try.........

Aluminum driveshaft, Bilstein shocks, 4R100 'heavy-duty' auto trans(no manual available), air-to-coolant intercooler & pump, 'tuned' PCM(easily 'chipped'), larger anti-swaybars, two fuel pumps, F1s(295x45x18), extra boost easily added thru changing a pulley, 9.75" rearend(3.73/1), 4-wheel disc brakes, etc.

Driving one can be more fun than you have ever have with your clothes on !

4R100 tranny
9.75 w3.73s rear end
sway bars front and rear
lowered 1 and 2
bilstien shocks
larger brakes on top of what else is mentioned

As far as motor problems,Most have been fixed by now but most common are spark plug launchings.(fixed)You dont get too many rod launchings until you are pretty modded in low 12s

with a chip/filter pully under $1000 ANYWHERE you are looking into mid 12s high 12s on street tires..............

Yea, the rods was what i was worried about, because a friend of mine has a 00 black Ws6 Ram Air T/A, completely stock, and he put on a Whipple Charger, and shot a rod through the oil pan a week after it was installed

I was referring to the truck as a whole... not just the motor. Some of my co-workers have made comments like; "man I cant believe you paid 28 grand for a truck with a supercharger".... they really think that its just a plain f150 that ford slapped a blower on and added 10k to the price.

01SSmokinSS, hope you didn't take my post wrong, I just didn't know what part of the truck you were asking about (ie. rearend/tranny/suspension......).

Its a very fun truck to own, if you buy one you will love it!

oh yea, no offence taken man, the prior post i put that i wanted engine information, then the one you responded to, i didnt put that, simple mix up no biggie....they do seem great, the only thing that was making me worry was the rod situation, since a buddy of mines LS1 blew it

most of the time it is not the boost leval that blows the engine but the tune in the enigne. Your vehicle should be tuned for your mods.

Stock you will not have a problem with the rods, well I think I have read of ONE truck that Claimed to be stock when it tossed a rod. But all the rest of the rod problems I have read of were with trucks with 4lb or higher pulleys on them... and some of those have "suggested" a bad tune to be the reason they blew.

A mild tune and a 2 or 3# pulley and you have a all around fun truck that turns 13.0's with no worries IMO.
