Tuning issues with longtubes?
I don't recall seeing any tuning issues with longtube headers. Why are longtubes a problem on 5.0 Mustangs and (apparently) not on the L? Any problems with emissions using longtubes?
I didn't have any, since I had shortys, but reading threads about longtubes on the 5.0s were common. If I recall, it was usually driveability problems, and the theory was that the O2 sensor wasn't getting hot enough.
I had Texas Turbo long tubes and in my opinion they were the best out there, hands down. I wish they were still in business. I have put Texas Turbos, Motorsport, BBK, and MAC long tubes on 5.0's and TT's had the best sound, performance gain and fit. Even with other types I didn't notice drivability problems. Except when an O2 sensor wire got ripped off. Cams and in some cases heads would cause idle problems on the 5.0's, especially with speed density.
Come to think of it, I think I have heard of problems when people extended the O2 sensor wires. They either made the wires too long, sausing a voltage drop, or splices were not made too well.

Most of the problems with longtubes were on 94+ Mustangs. The computers on those cars were very conservative unlike earlier Mustangs. If I remember right the O2 sensor was in a different spot on the longtubes and that did cause a problem with the computer. Like topsy said it was something to do with the temp reading of the sensor. It would throw a check engine light and run very rich/lean(can't remember which one).
