Calling all Roush owners

I need all the info you are willing to give on this. I bought the Roush lowering kit and have been waiting for my new 03 to come in. After reading the post Chris made about lowering, I think maybe I made a mistake. I wanted a lower (just a tad) and much better "hold the road" truck. I thought that is what I would get with the Roush setup. That is why Roush was the only lowering kit I even considered. I was hoping to do some Auto-Xing. After reading the before mentioned post I'm scared that the truck is going to ride like a tank and throw me against the roof of the cab every time I hit a bump. I Drive some fairly rough roads and now I don't know what to do. I would have thought that if Roush made it.....it would be first class and drive great! Also I hate to ask this but how much does this kit lower the L? I really only wanted a 2/3 at the most. Maybe I just need to sell the kit? I would like to hear as many people's thoughts on the Roush system as possible.....good or bad!

Thanks,
Jerry

Jerry, I'll have to go reread the post to see what exactly was said about the roush, but alot of the info posted was about the hotchkis. My understanding is that the roush rides significantly nicer/softer than the Hotchkis. I believe you have to remove the bumpstops or get very short ones though, because if I'm not mistaken the Roush is very low and will bottom out on the factory bumpstops (which are probably 3 or 4 inches tall). Get some more advice and reread that other post, but the roush sounds like to me it would be exactly what you are looking for.

good luck.

later,
chris

I like mine. I used the supplied front bump stops and the rear bumpstops from a 99.
I wouldn't recommend towing or hauling a lot of weight with this setup.

Thanks for the replies. How much drop does the Roush give a Lightning? I just went to their site and it does not say! I was thinking it was 2/3. I'm not worried about hauling and weight, the most that's ever been in the 99 is my four wheeler. 99% of the time it's empty (except the bedrug and bed cover. I just don't want it to be too low or ride like *****!

I absolutly love my Roush kit ..i don't think it rides rough at all...it lowers a regular 150 ...3 and 3.5 rear...Much easier install than the regular hanger/shackle kits too!

The ROUSH kit is still a sport performance kit, you have to remember that. If you have really bad roads and like to cruise them at 70mph, you will get thrown.

That being said, the truck will hug, it will drop you 2" front and back, and as long as you get the shocks (or other aftermarket ones), the ride will be good on regular roads.

Does it ride stiffer than stock? Yes, obviously less suspension travel will do that. On my trip to atlanta through lots of road construction, even my dad was surprised at how well it handled the bumps, the ONE exception is small sharp dips seem to nearly make it bottom out. Of course I have not been back under my truck to inspect if it is, if so, it might be as easy is shortning the bump stops a tad in the rear.

Kit ROCK though. I had about 650lbs of Tvs in the back of it the other day, and it did ride very harsh though. But hey i tow stuff too in frequently to sacrifice my fun and enjoyment =)

Thanks for putting my concerns to rest. When the 03 gets here I'll install it. Then all I will need is alignment info.

Also what does a panhard bar do? I put one on my motorhome (front leaf springs) and it cured road wander, but what does it do for you on the rear of an L?

it keeps the axle centered between the frame rails.. i'm sure some will argue but i don't think your going to need one unless your doing some SERIOUS driving !! i think i would go with traction bars...

I have Truck Tracks on my 99 that will be moved to the 03. I just left Tim Skelton's site. He said he thought he would need a kidney belt to drive a Roush lowered truck on the street! I don't know what to think now!

I was thinking this problem could be solved by installing an air bag kit. From what you have seen do you think there is enough room in the rear for a kit? I still need to be able to tow.
