"they said yep is sounds like the wrong dipstick but that they would call me back at 9:00 to be sure when a trans person got there"

Not to dwell on this subject further but did you ever hear back from FORD?? I'm just curious what they said or maybe if they stooped low enough and offered an apology or follow-up action to see how this incident happened in the first place (wishful thinking).

sweet! No, I am not at home and haven't been all day. I went to work this morning to do the trans flush, then spent most of the day waiting at the tint shop to get my windows done, then I had to work on a friends Saleen in trade for him putting a few coats of Zaino on the L. Actually thats where I am now www.performanceautosport.com to return the S281 and pick up the truck, thats why I'm under the wrong screen name. I posted before I remembered to log him off and "superfords" on.

what a pleasant surprise that will be if it's at home when I get there.

thanks Tim!

later,

Chris,

Good luck, hope it's there. I can't guarantee it of course, and it might be Monday, but we can hope!

Time for a newby question. When Mercon V is called for, I am assumimg regular Mercon is not advised???

How many L owners are useing a straight synthetic fluid and what is best as a replacement for Mercon V???

Thanks,

Rocks
I bought 15 qts of Redline D4 Synthetic fluid and had a local quick lube shop pump the old out while pumping the new in. It's been in about 15,000 miles and my trans seems to love it.

I'm wondering if they paid you straight time, or did this under a warantee claim, seems if it were my truck the selling dealer would be covering all my time for the F**king around involved. I agree it was a mistake at the build plant, but come on, those people make union wages to assemble these trucks, Maybe they can reimburse you some union wages for the time involved...(yeah right)

Just to follow up, I made the right people aware of this problem and mentioned it was the second one I had heard of in less than a week, they told me an alert would be noted, which I think may mean that the dealers will get something about it. I also told them that it was not uncommon for dealers to look up the wrong transmission on a Lightning and use MERCON V in the 4R100 which is VERY BAD, so maybe they'll send out a letter or something.

Bringing this one back since I noticed that I too have the MerconV dipstick. Haven't touched the fluid so I guess there is no worries. Do I just need to go into the dealership and get a different stick or should I pull the pissed raving lunatic act and try for a free Mobile1 synthetic fill?

They may give you a free flush, but Ford will not pay for any fluid other than Motorcraft Mercon.
