Question about installing delta chip(not totally switch placement related)
I've used the search and couldn't find it so I'll ask. When undoing the 10mm bolt holding the harness to the ecu, are there any clips holding the harness or just the bolt. I feel like I have been unscrewing it enough but it doesn't seem to want to come out. Also, on JDM's instructions for a superchip it says to scrape between the contacts to get the silicon off, does this apply for the diablo also, or do I scrape the contacts. Finally, to place the switch in the overhead console in the sunglasses compartment do you have to extend the wires, or is that just for the garage door opener compartment.
Thanx for the help in advance,

Theres a little blck retention thinger that holds the cpu up against the side of where its mounted. Just unscrew the bolt from the Front of the truck.. Then go under the passenger side floorboard and look up. You will see the ECU. Just pull the black retainer off and it should pop out for you.
The instructions for installing the chip is universal. You will have to disassemble the ECU box to clean the contacts.
I have my LED and Switch mounted in the sunglass compartment. I had to extended the harness about 8 inches.

But are there any clips on the harness or ecu holding the harness to it or just the 10mm bolt? And as for cleaning the connectors do I scrape BETWEEN the connectors or ON them with a awl for the delta chip? Where did you splice in the 8 inches of wire (front/middle/end) and have you ever had a problem with your switch, and is there really anything that splicing the wires could really do to the chip?
Thanx for the quick reply,

Hi Toy,
Here's the Computer view from the inside, this is where the chip plugs in, hard to see, but notice the Duct tape and the wires coming out from it. You might want to do yourself a favor and for right now just put the switch right here. The holes already there and its a perfect spot you can get to easy enough. There's actually two or three of those holes you can install the switch in under the dash but in hands distance.
Now for the contacts, this is important to do correctly. Take the computer inside, clean up, sit down, and notice the black plastic piece covering the opening where the chip plugs in. Remove that and take the computer cover off, now take the scotch brite pad and a little screwdriver (or something) and clean both sides of the terminals, Yes you will have to go right on top of the actual connection points because you'll see the protective coating it has on it. Remove all that protective coating stuff; clean it with alcohol, and your done. Put it back together, install the chip AS THEY TELL YOU, put the computer back in the Truck, and you my friend just got a good 35 to 50 HP and almost equal amounts of torque, GOOD LUCK

You find some help here.

There are other sites with chip install Step by steps as well the search will pull them up pretty easy

Thanx for the info guy's and Doug I did go there as well as do a regular search and also tried the other links in the technical articles sections but none of them said whether or not the 10mm bolt is the ONLY thing that holds the harness, with about 100 wires in it, connected to the ecu, under the hood. This is the only question I am still unsure about, and like I said in the beginning It feels to me like I have unscrewed it enough but the harness doesn't seem to pull out with light to medium force, and I don't want to hurt anything by using major force while not knowing for sure that the bolt is the only thing holding the plug in.
Thanx again,
Bill

Bill on my 2000 - the only thing holding the harness to the PCM is a really LONG 10 mm bolt that is captive in the harness..
Keep unscrewing till the harness pulls out pretty easy. It is likely over 20 turns. It will feel like you have completely unscrewed it- its not - just keep turning till the harness is loose.
Then there is one plastic clip that holds the PCM to the bracket under the dash.

Thanx Doug that is exactly what I wanted to hear so I would know if I was doing it right or not
. I do try to use the search first so I don't pi$$ off the guys who have answered the same question like a million times so that the info stays fresh on here. Half of the stuff I now know about my truck, and motor vehicles in general for that matter, have come from here, and it just keeps getting more helpful
.
Thanx for all the help and hopefully this helps others that need it,

I didnt take pics when i did the install because i did my gauge pod too and had to get my truck done in time for my moms funeral.
However, i can go out in the morning and pop some pics for you.
It was very easy. Just make sure you have a good soldering iron, heat shrink, wire and electrical tape.

Bill: After you've cleaned the contacts and want to change a chip, you'll be able to do it in 5 minutes or so. Yes, the 10mm bolt is a long one but with a 'shorty'-handled ratchet(I use a 3/8" drive but a 1/4" will work too.) and a shallow socket, you can reach in behind the battery and ratchet away
for several seconds. After the bolt is loose, you will have to actually grab/pull the harness away from the firewall/PCM.
Remember to have disconnected the neg. cable, have turned on the h/l sw., and keep the ign. key away from the ign. sw. before you disconnect the harness. Turn the h/l sw. 'off' before you reconnect the battery cable after hooking the PCM back up.
Good luck!
