Belltech drop finally completed w/ pics

After 2 long days of working in the garage, I finally finished my stupid drop kit. I figured it might be hard, but I had no idea it would be that laborious. It only took 1.5 hours to complete the front , but the rear must have taken at least 14 total.

I wish someone would have mentioned that the frame is reinforced behind the hanger. Not only do the rivets flatten on the outside, but they also squeeze in between the two plates of metal so that they are locked into the frame (so to speak).

The only way I was able to remove them was by drilling a hole about 2-3 mm deep and 10 mm wide into the rivets once they were ground down to the frame. Then you take a 8 or 9 mm socket and put vise grips on it. Place the socket in the freshly drilled hole and hammer away with a small sledge hammer. By putting pressure on the outside edges of the rivet, they popped through. All other method (i.e. air hammer) sucked!!!

Scott,

Looks good man... On the rivets the Air Hammer should have worked but you have to have a punch and ALOT of air pressure. It looks good though, you did use the middle hole on the back shackels right? BTW I have your extra set of Shackels sold for you. Get a camber kit and alignment now man!

I did drop down a hole on the shackles, and it does sit about level on a flat surface. There is a bunch of crap in the bed in that second photo, so it looks a little off. I had to order the cam bolts, since Napa didn't have them. ($26 a piece is a crime) I might go pick them up tomorrow, but I am so sick of working on it.

I just had a standard home compressor with a 6hp motor, 30 gal tank, running 120psi. Tried the punch thing, but it didn't work. All it did was mutilate the metal in the rivet. I had the best results with simple "manpower", a sledge hammer!! If I had all the crap you have, then it may have gone smoother.

Shackles sold already, woohoo! Give me a call!

My Snap-On air hammer with chissel bits and punch bits made short work of the rear hangers...entire install was 3-4 hours front and back. Did you have enough air pressure on the compressor?

On the Napa stuff you only need one $26 box. Both sides should be in it. I went through the same thing....

It looks great man... You do the shocks to?

Ordered the shocks 2 weeks ago, and got a call yesterday saying they were shipped out. They say it will be Jan 6, 2003 before they come in. I understand that Christmas time puts a load on distributors, but this prominant Doetsch distributor is not looking so great in my opinion being that it was 10 days to pack up some shocks (which they had in stock I might add) for shipment.

Sony DSC-S75 (3.3 megapixel)

The pictures obviously look even better in full size, but those are huge. I deliberately blurred the area around the truck in the first pic. The second pic was shot through 2 pieces of glass to diffuse the image. It turned out cooler than I expected.

is that a 2/4 or a 4/6 drop? i plan on getting the belltech drop in the next few months (22's on ORDER! BOO-YAH!) and i should be getting the edelbrock shocks with it (tuned to that drop kit). it looks like a 4/6. and oh yeah, what tools do you need for installation? i'm trying to do everything myself, but i'm quite new to automechanics (or atleast actually doing work myself).
