A Question for all L Owners
A Question for all L Owners
Hello everyone,
I did a search on this, and nothing came up, so here it goes.
I have a stock 2002L and when I'm at around 60-70mph and I roll into the throttle in 4th gear (gradual application of throttle so there is no downshift), I hear a light tick tick tick. I dunno if the Lightning has noisy lifters, or maybe its just the sound of the engine, but I am also concerned that it might be some kind of detonation.
Can anyone shed some light on this issue?
Thank you all in advance!

There are no lifters on these trucks, so its not lifters. It depends on what mods you have on the truck, or if you got some bad gas as to wether or not it is detonation. Does it sound like a metaly rattle? If so it gould be a little det. My 2002 kind of sounds like it has an exhaust leak but I have heard many other trucks and they all make the same noise. If you are really concerened I would just have another lightning owner that might have a little more expierence with these things go for a ride with you. It never hurts to get a second opinion. Good luck, I hope you get it figured out.

Ok I will try it then
BlueLightning, I use 92 octance at Esso. Do you know if 92 oct in Canada (I see you are a fellow Canadian) is the same as 92 oct in the US.? I heard that the classification policies are slightly different in each country (MTBE, % alcohol)

ahhh...good ole' Esso...it is Exxon in the the U.S....i'm sure most of you know that...just remember that because last spring break went on a road trip to New York and stopped by Niagara Falls (Canadian side)...I was so disoriented by Canada that all I can remember is Esso and Canadians not selling beer in convenience stores...what's up with that???????????
Checking your plugs would be a good idea! I changed a friend of mines plugs in his L a couple of months ago. He went from the stock plugs to the ngk tr-5s and most of the stock plugs were just finger tight!
