I've run stock plugs with a 3# pounder and they looked great after 22000...I've run Denso IT20's with a 3 pounder and burned them up due to leaning out at 130 mph...not the plugs fault.
I'm running Denso IT22's at the moment and they are working fine..smooth idle and The Denso's pull much harder in the upper RPM's...Major difference from the stock plugs...I occasionally bury the speedo and the truck is still pulling much harder with the Denso's than it ever has with stock plugs .....all other things being equal..chip..etc.

Now that is funny. I had a bet with a friend when he got his new '00 F150 that I couldn't find the spark plugs or spark plug wires. Of course I lost.

I've been running TR-5s with a Superchip and 4# lower. Have 19k on it and put them in with 9K on the truck. Checked 'em before I went to the track in November to be sure they were oK, and they looked fine. I checked 'em when I got back, and again they look fine. I do plan on a change when it warms up a little and that will be to TR-6s. I already have them so what the heck.

I'am running the TR-5s with a 4#er and jdm full exhaust and chip. I picked up about 1 mph in the 1/4 over the TR-6s, and seem to have better thottle response. My truck semms to like the hotter plugs! Jim

Don, they'll work perfect for lot's of L owners, especially the Pro's like you You aint got that Monster of yours running 11's by luck, YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING. But for new guys who may not be doing Dyno Chip Tuning and don't understand HOW IMPORTANT A/F and Fuel Delivery is, they could be deadly. Personally I hated them from the second I put them in, and posted many times about them, including the second I started it up with them and noticed the idle was crap compared to what I had before. For me the Denso's fixed that and give me piece of mind after melting (3) TR-6's. I will however say that my melt down was clearly from a clogged fuel filter and not from the type of plug. But with the Denso's I immediatly gained 3/10ths in my 1/4 time from the week before, and 2 MPH with the same 1.9 60 ft time. (but again I did have a clogged filter the week before)
I know people running TR-5's with no Problem (even tuners) but I Love Long WOT 150 MPH runs and for people doing that often, I think TR-6's are the wrong plug, you need a colder plug to safely do that. IF YOU WANNA CALL THAT SAFE :eek

I think what some are finally figuring out is A/F is not the cause of blown Lightning Motors and Plug melt downs as much as we all think. I truly belive it to be fuel delivery, octane, ejectors, fuel filters, and a good quality Gas. I see some tuners now agree and actually talk about it on their web site. Bottom line seems to be some work well with TR-6's and some work better with IT-22's.

I would imagine this post aint gonna help this poor guy pick a plug

i use denso it20s but will switch to it22s next time around. just make sure you get your chip reburned. JL is a reputable tuner if you have a diablochip...

good luck

I can't believe noone has said IT-16's.

I ran them for months while I had my 4# lower without a problem. Then when I went to a 5# lower I got a set of IT-20's.......still no problems. I can't beleive all you guys running IT-22's with only a 4# lower. My buddy tried them with a 4# and had the worst miss ever when the truck was cold. He swapped them out instantly.

Maybe it depends on where you live

Hey soap....What is bad for one truck might not be bad for another..A friend of mine and myself are runnung the 22's gapped at .041 with no problems at all. In fact, we have run our quickest and fastest with them. We live in NJ, so the climate is similar to yours in michigan. Also with the 4# lower and my other mods, the truck is producing just about 15lbs of boost. How much boost is your buddies making? And as far as idlle quality goes, I think it's as smooth as a baby's a$$.

I am currently runing a #4 lower W/ stock plugs(pulley only on for about 2k miles). I plan on changing to the Denso's this spring. My ? is are the IT22's good for more than a #4? I am thinking about adding the adjustable upper strickly for the track. Will the 22's still be a good choice with #6 of boost?

Stock, these trucks produce about 8-9lbs of boost. With just a chip and intake and good air, they are easily at 10lbs. So theoretically with the 6#er, you should be around 16lbs of boost. With the 1# upper that I just installed, I am a little over 15lbs, and currently have no problems with the 22's...Talk to your tuner though, because every truck is different.

Yes Ripper (Great Name BTW)
I run a 4 lower and a 2-3 upper. These plug questions will never be a cut and dry answer. Every chip is somewhat differant, mine is programed for regular 93 octane but I use 94 (to be safe) my street side is only 15 degrees of timing (to be safe for NY Winters) my race side is 17 degrees (works perfect with standard pump gas at the track) and my A/F's are 11.6 on the street side and 11.8 - 12.0 on the race side (lean enough for HP, rich enough for Long Period WOT Blast) In the Winter months like now, I take the Upper off and run the lower only, since my chip is tuned for 6-7 lbs of extra Pulley Boost this ensures me a nice safe rich winter tune. The Denso's have proved to be perfect with me and that set up. Many have a much more aggresive Tune and use much higher octane and yes also run faster than me. Next Race Season I will step it up and shoot for low to mid 12's on pump gas.
After that its AFTERMARKET BLOWER TIME OR NOS for my 11 second quest.

Rob,
Thanks for the input. It seems you and I are running very close to the same tune. The last time I dynoe'd my A/F was in the 11.6-11.7 range. I only ran it on the street side. JDM tuned the chip and it's the J49/69 program. I just don't wan't to torture myself by doing these plugs twice in the same month How many miles have you had them in so far?

The TR-6's did this after 800 miles

The Denso's are now in for over 2000 miles and doing just fine.
