? for those with a JL Delta chip

I just purchased a JL Delta chip and was wondering where some of you ran the wire from the chip to the toggle and through the firewall and how you mounted it in the cab. Any suggestions that could make my install look professional are much appreciated.

I ran mine underneath the dash and put it in the plastic cover thats above the steering wheel.Thats also where I mounted my N20 switches as well. That way when you sell the truck, just replace that piece. Its cheap and easy to remove..

You don't have to go through the firewall.

There are two little round holes under the glove box, you can mount the switch there.

Ran mine to the stereo/heater control bezel and stuck the switch under the vent.

I lengthened the wire by about 3-4 ft and ran the wire up the passenger side A piller and up over the cab to the upper consull. I mounted the switch in the holder for the garage opener. I just have to pop the cover open to select the race or street side. It takes a 18 gauge three conductor wire. I soldered the wires together and shrink wrapped them and no problems works great and it's hidden.

I ran mine to the driver's side. Mounted the switch out of sight just below the hood release leaver. There is a piece of metal there that has a diagnostic plug mounted to it. I drilled the hole next to it and mounted the switch. The LED is mounted in the Fuse Panel cover and can be seen. This way if I ever pull out the chip I can replace the cover with a trip to the Ford dealer and no more hole. My wires weren't extended any.

edit...
before you extend any wires you may want to check with your tuner / diablo. I remember a thread were someone cut a Superchip wire and it was nolonger warrantied. That switch on the diablo has it's own little chip and my tuner recommended against cutting any wires. Not to say it doesn't work.

72smitty,

Open the glove box and look in the upper left hand corner where light wiring loom rests in the grove.

Slip the wire out and install the switch. Perfect fit.

Out of the way from accidental bumpage yet easily reachable if needed.

If I was concerned about a warrenty I would not have pulled my engine and rebuilt it ha ha ha.
A new chip doesn't cost much. I don't think there is any kind of chip on mine. Just a toggle switch and the wires are not hard wirred to the chip they clip on and off. So if you messed up on trying to lenghten your wires you could just buy a new switch which don't cost much.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Excellent pictures and explanations will be very helpful. I think I'll go with either the glove box or under the driver side dash. I like the stealth aspect and ease of switching in a hurry. This will come in handy since there are a lot of ricers in my area waiting to get spanked by the silver beast.

just be sure to not mount it anywhere that someone (or yourself) might accidentally flip it....i'd recommend either in the glove box or what Don said...since there's that black plastic piece that blocks it enough where your passenger wont accidentally hit it with his or her leg. good luck!
