I'm selling my 96 Vobra to buy either an 03 Lightning or Cobra. I've heavily been leaning towards the Lightning for the past few months. I know the Cobra is faster but it is very similiar to what I already have. Will I regret owning an L? I doubt I will but I've never owned a truck before only sports cars. If you were in my situation what would you do and why? I want something different and that is one of the main reasons I've always loved the L's.

Hey why not both if you got the $$.

They are different enough to justify having one of each. I just bought an '01 Cobra, with an eye towards an '03 eventually.

 

i say Lightning because you can haul stuff around in the back if you need to. you can also haul it at 140mph

 

Over the last few months I have been thinking about selling my Lightning and buying a cobra. But then I think....I will just be another mustang guy. I won't be able to tow my race car when it is done. I won't be able to tow my jetski. I am not gonna throw a transmission in the back. Lastly I sure as hell can't throw my quad in the back of a cobra. I think I would pick the Lightning if I had to do it all over again. There is just so much more you can do with it. Between those two, def go with the Lightning. You'll love it to death.

 

I recently sold my '88 GT that had lots of mods, about 425 rwhp (the point is that this car was quite a bit quicker than my L). I then bought an '03 GT. I like the Lightning quite a bit more than either.

For me, the Mustang is too small on the inside, almost wish I hadn't bought it.

I also feel that L is more unique than most Stangs.

If you want to cruise in relative peace, get the lightning. If you want to be harassed and tailgated by every honda, camaro, acura, neon and toyota, get the Cobra. (although, maybe the '03 Cobra will finally get some respect and people might leave you alone....but I doubt it)

 

F-150s are all over the place!!!!

'03 Cobras are extremely rare as are Lightnings.

If you want to go out and bang gears, and want something that can handle, get the Cobra.

If you want something that can haul stuff and is a really nice daily driver that you can take to the track get the L.

 

Go for the Cobra.... it already has the built bottom end and more go fast stuff for the Mustangs anyway.

Not really a tough question for me.. If i need a vehicle and they stopped making Lightnings then my only purchace would be a Cobra. There are great cars.. I'm a Truck person, and I love both of my Lightnings.............

Cobra:
Stronger built engine, more reliable, many mods available
Faster than L
Most people however won't recognize it as a Cobra... just another Mustang
Uncomfortable interior, and small amount of space
Manual transmission

Lightning:
Many mods available, but reliability issues if you push too hard on a stock engine
Cheaper than the Cobra
More interior space, much more comfortable
More common than the Cobra, but it stands out more.
However, becoming more and more common as Ford cranks out more every year.
