I was thinking along the same lines before I bought the Lightning.

I choose the Lightning as a daily driver (non-salt times) because of the following:

1) It'll get me a 12 second "fix" a couple times a year.

2) cheaper insurance (quite a bit too where I live)

3) It's a truck that can be used as a truck. (think syclone)

4) Sitting up higher makes a big differance in traffic.

5) It seats 3 instead of 4! (I've got a family of 5 and sometimes "have to" drive the kids around on dirt roads. "Oh well Babe? Looks like we'll have to take your car." )


I had 3 mustangs in the past. And this thing is more enjoyable to live with everyday than my stangs were.

Having said all that, If I had a year round daily driver and was looking for a fair weather car / sat night special? I'd have gone the 03 cobra route.

I went from 01 Lightning to 03 Cobra and haven't look back yet. The only thing that bothered me was the insurance. I paid 960 a year for the Lightning and the Cobra is 1690 per year.

 

Hands down the lightning has way more character then the new cobra!

But the cobra is faster and does have more potential to go faster with mods.


I wish I could have both, but I would still have my L over a Cobra.

 

I think buying the 03 Cobra would be too much like what I have now. The main difference would be the 6 speed and the boost would come on earlier but basically very similiar to what I have now. Everyone owns a Mustang and that is why I want something different. I'm a salesrep who spends 6 hours a day on the road and I see about 40 Mustangs a day and only about 2 Lightnings a week. So I think this is a pretty easy decision and I'm going to go with the Lightning.
