Started to Strip Wheels to be Polished
Eww looks like your wheels have a yeast infection hehe
.
But for real i cant wait to see the finished product. Polished wheels are bitch to keep clean but well worth it. I love my Boyds

were those wheels stock or did you have them powdercoated???reason i ask is because they are only painted from the factory, also what are you using to strip them???i was thinking of doing this myself even if it takes a year to get done.
I have been scuffing my 20" reps down to be repainted. All I been using is some 320 grit. That's all, but I am repainting them, not polishing them. If someone wants to repaint there wheels, just scuff them down a little for the paint to stick. It has been taking me about an 1 1/2 hours per 20" wheel.
I thought it was the same stuff on our blowers, which cam off pretty easily with stripper. I used Strippez Industrial strenght from Lowes. Works good just need multiple coats.

Darin is definitely right. Aircraft stripper is excellent. Use above 65 degrees for best results.

Definately above 65 deg. or it doesn't work well, I found out the hard way. Also if you put a sheet of plastic (I used barbage bags) over the part while the stripper is working it helps the stripper by not letting the stuff evaporate.

Seriously, though - I may powdercoat my rims now! After seeing how Darin's came out... MAN, they look GREAT.
Does anyone think a black center with red outer ring would look crappy? Or, ricey?
BlkBanshee,
I got the idea after seeing a GEN 2 truck on this site that someone did the same way. I don't know how a red outer ring would look and I don't know if you can powder coat it like that. I do know that I had a hard time finding a place that would leave the lip polished, most places would only do the whole wheel or nothing.
