Question 1 inch lowering spring/shock

i have a bell tech #4803(2inch lowering coil) which lowers a lightning 1 inch. i also have the heavy duty nitro active shocks on the front. the problem i have is when i go over a large dip or brige my tires touch my inner fenders because it is not stiff enough. is there a stiffer shock i can go with? is there a stiiffer front spring that will only lower 1 inch? or do i need to put my stock springs back in and stock shocks. would the stock shocks be stiffer with the bell tech coils?

Shocks should only used to dampen occillations. They should not be used to increase the spring rate.

Aren't the bump stops supposed to prevent the wheel from traveling too far?

Beltech springs are soft and Nitro shocks don't help at all. I recommennnd them a looks kit no track use. Your bump stops should stop fender touching for sure. maybe someone left them out? W/ Beltech springs you need to trim the stock stops about an inch or better. Shocks will make the most difference but a $$ QA1 is about the only choice with short enough travel to work. I just went from 950# Hotchkis coils to 1100# custom coils from Stan. Of course I drive my L a little harder than most. I have replaced two sets of Nitro shocks for those wanting more performance. Get some man springs

Thumbs up

i have the stock bump stops on and they are sitting an eighth of an inch away from the control arm. they cant be doing much because the tire is still going up into the fender 2 inches when i hit a dip . my truck is a 99 so i have the shorter bump stops. what is a stiff spring that would still be no more than an inch lower in the front?

True but very misleading. Shocks do dampen occillations, they also control the dampening and rebound. For example if hit a dip, and you bottom. Then you need a shock with more dampening, not a stiffer spring. Generally speaking the spring will determine the load, the shock will determine the rate at which the springs will compress. Stiffer springs will also help hard cornering, again because it can handle a heavier load.

So true, you can't change a shock and expect to carry a higher load. If you hit a dip and it bottoms, you need shocks not springs, although both is a possibility.

The QA1’s will over power the Belltech springs. Before you go blindly spending money, I would get in touch with Ruslow (Stan) over a NLOC. Stan will be able to hook you up.

The QA1 shock is really a racing shock, and would be over kill for just lowering the truck. However, the QA1 would be the best shock for handling.

Question

what part #,s would i need for the front and rear? also is there a limit on the shocks if you are lowered? or do you need a shorter shock?
