Belt squeek on start up?

I am not sure what exactly the problem is. In the passed two months when I start my truck in the morning, I hear the belts whaling out an awful cry for a few minutes. Recently, this embarasing problem has become progressively more tramatizing. The truck can be at operating temperature for up to ten minutes before the squeeking goes away. I have narrowed down the noise to be coming from the blower snout. I dont understand what the problem is,, the belt? or the pulley? This happens in any weather condition whenever the truck is first started for the day. If the engine has already been ran to the point where the squeeking goes away, it can cool down all day and still no whaling from the belts when it is started again. Just whenever it is started for the first time of the day.

from the sound you describing I would guess its the belt. when you first start it up, open the hood and listen for what the hell it is. try lubing up the belt with some dressing just to see if that stops it, if it does then either it need that jisim or it needs to be replaced. if thats not the case I doubt the blower is making that noise so I would venture to say its the idler pulleys then.

paul from REM made a great post about regreasing then pulleys that you might want to do a search for.

Hope that helps bro. squeals can be embarrising, I KNOW!

Could be a worn serpenteen belt OR a worn Tension pully. My Ranger has a tension pully that can be release by hand it is so worn. Check both.

I have the same problem also. It happens at start up and also when I let off the gas when the truck is still cols. Once it warms up it goes away.

The belt is glazed, spray it with a belt treatment.

Belt squeak...

I do not have the problem on my 01 L, however I have something similar on my 00 F150 4x4. This truck also has the 5.4 in it. Only on cold mornings, and I mean cold, right when it starts up I get a loud rip sound that goes away instantly after start up. I changed the belt and it still didn't help. No one seems to be able to figure it out. I think the problem is the tensioner, so I am going to change it and see what happens.....
