Smile Looking to buy

Current owner of a '01 Explorer Sport Trac and am looking do upgrade. Trying to find a good used KR as I have a specific price pont and monthly payment in mind. BUT, I may be able to afford a new KR if the incentives and financing rates are favorable. I've seen X plan and fleet sales mentioned on this board as good places to buy, so where can I get my best deal on a new king ranch? Looking for 4x2, as I don't need 4x4.

Also, what do you like most and least about your KR?

Thanks,

Marc

I like the fact that they are pretty unique. I (think I) have the only one in town.
It drives great, is comfortable, sharp and I've had very few problems with it.
My complaints are minor- milage averages about 15 mpg, but that's what I got with my Bronco with a 351.

What do we like most?

I think we can all answer this in unison....

THE LEATHER

I certainly believe that you'll fall in love with the KR as soon as you sit down. We've all come to the conclusion that they lace the leather with some type of narcotic to make us want more.... more.... MORE!!!!! Sorry... got carried away there.

As far as X-plan and A-plan is concerned, you'll have to know someone that either works directly for Ford (A-plan) or pass one of the salesman a $100 bill to get X-plan. The $100 would be well worth it.... You'll save several thousand.

If you have ANY questions, feel free to post them here. As I mentioned, we're a bunch of crazed lunatics about our Kranchs.

The $100 won't help. They have to prove that you are eligible for x-plan pricing. My fiance drives a Sport Trac, so I can compare one for one for you if needed. It's almost like big brother, little brother. I am amazed at even the x-plan prices of these KR these days. I paid $27k x-plan in My of last year and now the x-plan is approaching $30k for a comparable truck. I was looking at maybe getting a 2003, but ouch, if that is what they are going for, I will keep mine.

I disagree. The $100 **DOES** help. All the joe-blow that you pay the bucks to has to do is call in and get his X-plan number issued to him from Ford. He then uses that X-plan number on your purchase.

It happens CONTINOUSLY here in Louisville. There are two Ford plants (super-duty and explorer) plus numerous distributors. The first thing the dealerships ask you around here when you walk on the lot is if you are X or A plan. I've had two salesmen offer to get me X-plan for a small fee. It DOES happen.

Of course, I kept the little known fact that I'm A-plan in my back pocket until we sit down and discuss the best deal that they can do. I wanted to know if they were really looking to sell a vehicle or if they were toying with me.... once I determined that they were interested in selling a truck. I sprung A-PLAN on them (of course I'd already seen the invoice and knew how much I was going to spend).

Hmm, my experience has been kind of a hassle. I tried to get x-plan for my fiance, and when they talked to Ford, they checked on everything and said it wasn't possible since we weren't yet married. Then I turned around and signed her up for the EAA (which was still doing the x-plan purchase immediately), so I ended up getting it for her anyway. But, the moral is, be careful bribing the salesmen. Ford is tough on the x-plan as they don't want to give it away to anybody. Obviously it is different in different parts of the country, so buyer beware. You may be casual and mention that you would like to get x-plan and feel the salesman out on whether he can do that for you BEFORE sliding a crisp $100 across the table.
