Question Gas Milage

I've had my beautiful Kranch Xcrab for about 5557.8 miles now . I've added a flowmaster cat back sys. and a K&N filter system---Problem is I'm still getting between 11.5 to 12.5 miles to the gallon---is it me or the gas (BP 87)--what else should I do. Dealer tells me that truck is tuned fo 87 octane. all help appreciated

a few questions. Do you drive Highway or City mostly? Do you drive fast? I have a a 4x2Crew I get about 17mpg I also have a Flowmaster cat back. However I have 35,000 miles on mine and my miles are 99.9% highway. I drive about 70-75mph most of the time, I have tried driving at 65 and it helps dramaticly however I can't drive that slow. Just some thoughts

I typically get around 18 with my 4X2. I don't have a lead foot (not anywhere near it). Sure, 30 mpg would be nice but, all things considered, I'm pretty happy with it.

most of my driving is around town and I am bit of a lead foot, BUT I do try to go the speed limit-- on the highway 75-80 am going on a trip to pick my daughter up in CT so I'll try to see what the gas mileage is.

Thanks

But I can't wait till the deisel comes out

You know, I need to calculate out the last few weeks to see how things are since the engine has been broken in some, but the wife's truck has been getting about 17 average. My expi gets around 16, but it is a bit heavier. Both are 5.4 4x2

Wait till the truck breaks in a little more. Your gas mileage will increase a little.

But that seems pretty low for a 4x2. I have a 4x2 supercab and get 15.4 mostly city driving.

See my gas log here.

deepblue brings up a good point. I went on record long ago that I might not have my SCREW long if the gas mileage holds where I was prior to a good 'breaking in' period. I was pulling about 14 tops (typically closer to 12).

The break in period sucked on gas but, I've come out of it and haven't changed my driving habits/styles.

Another thing that I noticed in the break in period was my 5.4 using oil like a ****. It would gobble up 1.5-2 quarts between changes. This continued until about 10k miles.

I checked my oil yesterday (14K miles on her now), it hasn't used a drop and I'm about 1k away from a change. Weird if you ask me...

I average about 15 mpg as well, and my driving is all in town driving, short hops, not to mention traffic and A/C. And I do race it when people egg me on. What's more, I usually win because I know how to pick my races. So I am fairly happy with what I am getting. I have to say that it has been better than the fiance's Sport Trac. She was getting 12 mpg, then I installed the Gibson swept side on her truck and immediately noticed a jump of about 2-3 mpg. All in all I can't complain about my mileage.
