I would have to agree with you I think the smoke bug deflector will look ridiculous. I personally have a stainless one, but that is because I have a stainless brush guarde and it helps the flow of the truck. I know somebody on this board has painted his....Charcoal Blue I believe Duffunnel I think it is, but don't quote me on that.

Not a KR - but I have a painted bug shield on my truck.

I bought the clear Bugflector II, bought color-matched paint from PaintScratch and painted it myself (paint the back side of the shield).

Yup, I have one. I had a smoke one, but it looked horrible, so I found a nice clear one and bought some paint from paintscratch and painted it myself. Looks much better now. By the way, I saw a Chestnut 4x4 KR on the road the other day with a stainless steel bug deflector, and it looked even more ridiculous than the smoke colored one (no offense Skagel). It just doesn't look right up there.

oh I agree, but because I also have a stainless brush guard it really blends nicely. If I didn't have the brush guard I would have had a bug guard color matched.

I just had my smoke colored one painted by a guy i work with. Looks pretty good. I haven't put it on my SCrew yet. He had to paint the front because of it being smoke colored, so i'm not sure how it will hold up. I also had him paint the honeycomb grill silver to match the truck. I'll be posting pics after i put them on this weekend.

dufunnel, is yours metallic clearcoat like the paint on ur truck, or is it just charcoal blue? i see that paintscratch has the color i need - estate green clearcoat metallic, but when i goto the order page, it asks if you want to order clearcoat and primer, can i just get these at home depot? did u guys get the paint can? i wonder if it will be enough, cause i have to paint both sides cause it is smoke, and i dont want to see any smoke, just the estate green metallic. i wonder if there is someone that can duplicate the kr badge and make it like 1/2" - 1" tall so i can put it in the middle of the bug shield, like the harleys...that would be awesome!! it would be better if they could embed it though...we'll see...i have to ask a few people...im gonna ask my friend at his body shop...see what he says. thanks guys!

MikeF150-
Did you buy the clearcoat from paintscratch.com? If so, did you have them add the flex to that also?
I'm thinking about painting my driving light covers, and if I have to order all this high-dollar paint, then I'm going to paint my bugshield , get some ventvisors and whatever else.

I did not use clearcoat on the bugshield, but I did have them add the flex agent. I also have the sneaking suspicion that mine is a Lund Interceptor too. I don't know for sure, because I took off the sticker that was on it. I seem to remember that though. I think it was a little cheaper than the EGR was, that's why I went with it. And my paint was the metallic exactly like my paint code.

I'm not sure how much I would trust painting the outside of a bugshield. I could have done that with mine, but I figured it goes through enough pounding that it might be prone to chipping or flaking, even with the flex agent. If you are painting both sides of a smoke one, then you will need to get the clearcoat too, but I'm not sure whether that has the flex agent in it as well. If so, get it from paintscratch. If not, get it from autozone or something. I don't think you need to worry about primer (I didn't obviously so you could see it through the shield), but again I wouldn't try to paint a smoke one either.

Good luck with what you decide.

I bought a $3 can of clearcoat from Wal-Mart - and it seems to be holding up fine on my vent visors and tail light covers. As others have mentioned, I didn't clearcoat the bugshield since I painted the back side of a clear shield.

Guys,

How much paint did you use? A can? 2 or 3? How many coats? I'm interested in doing the same thing but I don't want to spend $100 on paint if I can take the parts to my local body shop and have them do it for half.

Thanks your help
