painted bughshield
For those who painted their bug deflector, what did you do to prep it? Did you just spray it, or did you sand it before spraying it so the paint can adhere better? I already have a bug deflector but I'm thinking about getting a clear deflector and painting it silver to match the front of my truck. What do you guys think? Do you think it would look good, or not?
Nice truck !
I think on a lot of colors painting the bugshield is a bit superfluous but I really think on yours a color coded one would add to the overall "Whiteness".
Go for it and let's see the finished effort.

For a clear one, no sanding at all. You will see the scratches through it. For a smoke one, though, I'm not sure. It may help adhere, but I couldn't say for sure. I just cleaned mine thoroughly with mineral spirits and then alcohol before I painted it. I agree that especially with the white corner light covers a white bug deflector would look better. It helps to hide it against the rest of the truck.
Thanks guys for the feedback. I haven't thought about painting it white. My first choice is painting the bugshield silver to go along with the overall look of the front. Plus it would be different. Not sure if it would be tacky.
mine was rubbing a little tiny bit on one spot on the grille surround above the headlight, but all i did was raise teh hood bump stop a little bit and it stopped. easy fix
lol, no problem, it took me 2 years to think of it also
but i raised it about 1/8 inch on the passenger side and doesnt rub anymore. And hood's still flush and all. Was probably out of whack from teh factory.

I've seen several that rub.
I solved the problem on my old 1998 Explorer (aka the 'EXPLODER') with a tiny black disc of velcro (the soft piece) hidden inbehind the shield. Worked like a charm.

My Bugshield had rubbed so bad that I finally drove over to the AutoVentshade factory. and showed it to them, they're only about 10 miles from my house. By the way I had my bump stops raised about a 1/4 inch also and it still rubbed. The good thing is AutoVentshade took care of everything, $278.00 to repaint the grill and a new redesigned bugsheild. This time I got it in clear and had them paint it to match. It was funny to see four engineers out there with their camera taking photos and video of the damage.
I'll give them this much, they really want to put out a quality product and make sure thay have satisfied customers.
