Drove a Blackwoods...

I should probably post this down on the blackwoods thread but, it's never moving thus, I'll post it with you folks.... just cause I like ya'lls better. (intentional slang there... don't let me fool you).

Yup, the topic reads correct. I drove a 2002 Blackwoods today. There's a Lincoln dealership two blocks down from where I work thus, at lunch time, after noticing the fancy little toy down on the lot, I took a little walk in the sunny 80 degree weather to check it out. I played the total idiot when the salesman came out...

He kept spiffing it up; making it sound like it was the best thing since sliced bread. Granted it's a sharp truck but, to be honest, there were several things that I had hesitations about.

1. The bed of the truck. It's TOTALLY FIBERGLASS. All I can say is, you better stick a bunch of 'HANDLE WITH CARE' stickers on it because it's doomed to get a ding or crack.

2. I'm not much on the way the tailgate opens. Nifty concept and it's different however, I'll stick with my standard lay down tailgate. Heck, it provides more hauling length on our short beds. (our being us SCREW owners...).

3. Total black interior. While it was incredibly nice (not as nice as KR leather but a close second), it was INCREDIBLY HOT. Recall, I said it was 80 degrees outside today with humidity around 90%. The interior of the truck HAD TO HAVE BEEN 110 degrees. (Yes, it had cooled seats, I'll get to that in a minute).

4. Chrome mirrors. I don't like the look personally. I'd rather have them color matched with the truck (black). They are heated however (a definite plus).

5. Finally, the sticker. Yup, it was premium. Very high. $52,550 with a $2,200 'Dealer Markup Premium' making the grand total on this little baby at $54,750. YIKES!

It had a few nice points that I wish our KR's had.

1. Cooled seats. Need I say more?

2. Multiple driver settings. (auto adjustment on the seats at a push of a button).

3. A nicer stereo system (Alpine I believe... and it was stock).

I could go on and on but, bottom line is.... 'OVER PRICED'. But, keep in mind, they're not going to make these anymore... these were very limited in production and thus, in about 25 years, they'll be a collector's peice. I guess if I had a spare $55,000 laying around in the cushions of my couch, I'd get it for an 'investment'. For now, I'll stick with my KR.

I read somewhere that the target market for the Blackwoods are pro atheletes and cattle barons. Agreed that they probably are quite collectable, but at 5,500 pounds, the 300 horsepower only pulls about as well as our 260.

Believe it or not, I actually pulled it off such that I got it less than A-Plan. My KR was a demo. I was eligible for A-Plan and thus, when I sat down to deal on it, I started off not telling them. I asked that they go get the invoice and we'd start from there. They shot their price. I shot mine. (which was still above a-plan price). Then I sprung it on them... I was a-plan and they were going to have to flex. Little did I know, a-plan is not appliciable for vehicles that have been 'demo'ed. So, feeling let down and pretty darn sure I wasn't going to get the truck for what I wanted to pay for it, I said, well, if we can start dealing at the a-plan price, I might stay and talk, if not, I'm moving on. It helped tha the guy that I was dealing with on the truck was the sales manager and he was the one that was driving the truck. His quote to me was "I've been driving that thing for three months; in this business, they typically give me a new demo every two or three weeks and, not that I don't like the truck, I'm just ready for something new...". Thus, there we were, sitting at the table starting with a price lower than what he had originally told me. I made an offer, which I knew would be refused... he made an offer... we met in the middle - and even made him toss in a bedliner. The truck had 5500 miles on it when I got it... a couple of slight scratches but, it's in TIP-TOP shape...

The rest is history with a slick truck sitting outside in the driveway. I know I got lucky but, it was just meant to be!

Hey Rock,

At first glance, I kind of liked the Blackwood but after looking at if a couple of times, I wouldn't trade my S'Crew 4x4 KR for it even trade, no way.

Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't. I'd have to be a nut to buy a blackwood.

Later,
DaveMan

RockPick good luck with the new truck. Istill like my KR better. Maybe that's because I could not afford the Blackwood. It would be nice to have if I could put it in storage for a while and let it grow in value.

Hey LINYscrew,

I don't think Rock bought a Blackwood, he's just telling us what it's all about. However, I could be wrong 'cause I've been wrong before, today even.

Hey man, what's happening up there on Long Island?

LMAO

Nope, I don't have the guts, nor the savings account, to buy a Blackwoods. I wish... maybe someday. I've still got my eyes on a 67' Sting Ray as my 'DREAM VEHICLE'. Yeah, it's a Chevy... build a bridge and get over it! The 67' is truely amazing... I'd smack my momma to have one. (just a figure of speech - not literally).

Skagel, a BOSS? Geesh, it'd just be another vehicle to sit in the garage and collect dust. Then again, something like that collecting dust wouldn't have been a bad thing in about 30 years. Those are sweet though. A local dealership had SIX of them on their showroom the last time I was down there. This is the same dealership that also had 4 or 5 KRs sitting on the lot.

Also, the Blackwoods only came in 2wd.
