Thumbs down Frontal Crash Test Results - Ram Wins

Just found a story of interest to those of us who are truck owners...

Looks like the F-150 was rated 'poor' on frontal crash tests by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (the authority that helps insurance companies set their rates)... Of all ugly trucks on the market, the RAM was rated highest. (Guess they'll score high in a single catergory this year... and, I guess that's why RAM owners have contacted FORD/KING RANCH marketing inquiring on how to get their hands on Castano leather.... TOO BAD FOLKS!)

I'll let everyone read the story for themselves... I guess the bottom line is... 'DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE, WRECK YOUR KING RANCH AND/OR OTHER F-150 MODEL!'

What do you guys' and gals' think?

maybe it did rate poorly but the tests are flawed to a fault. they would have you believe that my jetta rated 5 stars in safety is safer than your truck. give me a break. maybe if all the wrecks were against brick walls and backing up into polls that would be true but fact is, you are much safer in your truck and so what if the ram is a bit safer. if someone where to run into me i would sure rather be in sarah's truck than my jetta. now as far as gas milage goes, well, that's another story all together. gotta agree with the "don't wreck your truck" statement though but i wouldn't be worried about being unsafe in the kranch.

after the accident pkagel and my parents were in I don't think you are safe no matter what ya drive...the idiot crack head that hit our parents was driving a pontiac sunfire and lived while our dad who was driving a mini van was murdered by the bastard....of course he has to live with knowing he took a man's life...I hope that haunts him every day.

rockpile,

the f150 that rated poorly by the insurance institute was an extended cab, not a supercrew. as far as i know, the s-crew hasn't been tested by the insurance institute. all f150 models do very well in government full frontal tests. however, one can speculate that the extended cab offset test by the insurance institute showed a weakness in fords A pillars and roof rails when there is no B pillar. the s-crew has a B pillar and therefore would prolly do better in the offset test than the extended cab did. however that is only speculation...

Did he just call me rockpile?

Tricksy,

Speculation or not, I was merely pointing out the story that I found.

Very true however Troy. The SCREW is more along the lines of the Expy versus the Ext Cab....

As I said earlier... JUST DON'T WRECK YOUR TRUCK!

My sentiments exactly. I have proven that our trucks are NOT F150's. They are Expeditions. The doors, body, wiring, and everything about them, even the frame, is taken from the Expedition. I have said for some time that they should be called the Expedition Sport Trac or something like that, but Ford wanted to add them to their already most popular F150 line. Strictly a marketing ploy. By the way, the Expeditions rated among the highest in crash ratings, so we don't have anything to worry about.

Very good point dufunnel. Indeed, it's an Expedition..... the name "Expedition Sport Trac" is kind of catchy. I like it...

Not much different than the F150 Supercrew King Ranch Edition.... that's pretty long.
