Question Spare Tire Lock ? ? ?

I'm looking for a decent spare tire lock. Anyone have any experience with any particular brand. I cruised through autozone yesterday....they have several to choose from. I'm needing one that will secure that lug of a 17" wheel under my rear bumper. Any suggestions? Brands? Model #'s?

I don't want a rattle - trap either. I don't want to know it's there until I have a flat and have to take it off...

THANKS FOR THE HELP FOLKS! I SINCERELY APPRECIATE IT!

Nope, I didn't get one with the truck. Didn't even think to look when I bought it...I would've worked it into the deal if I had paid closer attention.

What brand are the locks that you purchased? How much? Thanks!!!

The dealer gave me some sort of special metal cylinder which I thought was the spare tire lock since you needed to attach it to wind down the spare. He also said I had a card in there to order another if I lost it since that was the only way to get it down. Is this the lock for the spare you are talking about or something else? I will look tonight and figure out what it was he gave me and let you know.

Hrrm, honestly not real sure what you're talking about so, I'd have to incur that isn't what I'm talking about. I've seen several types...most of which were made by MASTER LOCK and carried at Auto Zone. Let me know what you're talking about though...that sounds like something I might should have.

THANX!

i bought one from Ford, which I think is the type MikeF150 is talking about. I don't have any complaints about it. Sorry, don't remember the cost.

Alright, here you go. I came home and looked in the glove box and sure enough had a package called Spare Tire Lock Key. It came with a card and serial number to register it with McGard, Inc. in Orchard Park, NY in the event you need to replace it.

I took a side view and a top view to post as attachments to this and the next post (So what are the secrets to multiple pictures in a single post I've seen some do here).

Ok, and here is the top view. Sorry it is blurry, I couldn't figure out how to make my camera go into macro mode. Anyway, inside the tip is a funny pattern which I assume must change slightly from vehicle to vehicle and thus the two sets of serial numbers to describe the pattern if it needs to be replaced.

Part # ?

Anyone have a part # and/or brand name for the spare tire lock from JC Whitney? How about their website address?

Thanks,

Joe
